Crazy Market

Somewhere between $3,500 and $5,500.

During the craze I sold a PSA 8 1st for 4.5k.

Make your own judgements about how fomo effects markets that are easily manipulated and also move extremely quickly

How do you guys think that this has affected Gold Stars? There were a few ridiculous Z&G sales the other day, like a PSA 8 Torchic that went for $2700. They come up on auction so rarely, so I guess a massive premium over last sold sometimes makes sense in a market like this, since last sold can mean several months ago when prices were lower.

Still, it smells like shilling when the cards are bid up to last sold price within an hour of the auction start, like it’s baiting people into setting a new market high.

Gold stars have been hot since late 2024. We’ll see if it sticks but with the 9s going crazy it was only a matter of time for it to leak into the 8s.

Honestly 6s aren’t looking that bad right now

This statement gave me big 2020 flashbacks

Yeah the t17 getting a lift in all grades cause of the 10 premium even though it isn’t a rare card in any other grade lol those were fun times

The prismatic surprise box promos…
I thought it was kinda high that they are all getting $25, and the umby is at $90 but I figured well they are decent promos so why not

Whats really shocking is the psa10 prices are insane for these… WHY
I was lucky enough to pull 2 umbreons so I guess they are going straight to grading

did they announce that this is limited and they will be no surprise box reprints or something?
I’m trying to understand why and how its getting this price

are the stamped cards the real gems that everyone is ignoring?
I dont know how many surprise boxes they printed, but if it turns out these were one and done, and that umby is only in 1 of every 9 boxes, is it possible the population of the stamped promo turns out to be less than the SIR long term?

How is the umbreon SIR getting so high? I thought the Pikachu from surging sparks was dumb on release I don’t think many people are buying these cards because they actually enjoy them for the price I think it’s mainly FOMO and Investing bros :fire:

They aren’t bad cards but for the prices they are commanding they don’t make sense that’s just my opinion though feel free to add or argue differently

I agree the price is stupid but the market is insane right now.
It was speculated that 1 in 53 packs contain an SIR. This was based off of data from 2,700 pack rips… so understand it’s not a large enough sample size.

But there are no full arts in this set and if you do pull an SIR there are 32 variations. So based on that math 1 in 1,700 packs for umby sir. Dont take that as scientific but thats comparable to moonbreon pull rates. But umbreon vmax was much cheaper product at launch so it was easy to rip
comparatively its costing a fortune to rip prismatic because of scalpers with packs at ~$12 market
so I GUESS I can understand the price if this is being set as the premier chase of modern
It wont surprise me if umbreon maintains a $1000+ raw price

The only way I can it going under in if Pokemon prints the set into the dirt but that probably won’t happen as we all know this was a cash grab set with (what I consider a less then mediocre chase)

My girlfriend and I have not been able to find any packs near us (unless over MSRP) since Prismatic released; it’s wild to me.

I haven’t seen prismatic or 151 but I’ve seen silver tempest and lost origin at target. But they’re charging more than MSRP by a little in my local ones

And it’s crappy product like mini portfolios

Shelves are getting completely wiped of everything, its like 2020 again in that regard.

Yeah for the most part.

I’d buy an etb if I saw one but I’m not quite desperate enough to buy a random tin to find 2/5 decent packs or buy a mini portfolio.

Who knows, when silver tempest is 10$ a pack maybe I’ll be kicking myself

there’s like a british version of Hallmark on my block that I always walk buy and always has prismatic packs but I don’t collect English :frowning:

Here is another high sale. This card is exploding as well.

Mike

I do want to learn the mindset of someone who buys at these prices. It was $5000-$6000 for two years but it’s appealing now at $8k+?

Yeah agree. Glad I picked a Lugia up during 2022 when it collapsed. Now it seems to be selling 2x-3x what I paid back then.

I still think a lot of vintage could be undervalued, at least when you weigh it against the price of sealed. It’ll all depend though I guess, modern prices & demand have definitely continued to surprise me, but every once in a while vintage starts to catch up or outperform.

People like that are probably either wealthy, new to the hobby, or driven by fomo.
