Crazy Market

Probably new collectors with some deeper pockets are buying these, because otherwise I don’t get it either.

People were paying $5k for PSA 9 base unlimited Chorizo during the Logan Paul hype, comparatively this doesn’t seem so bad… Pikachu + clothes + Mario = stonks

FOMO factor slowly kicking in, even happening to me with the last few cards i need to complete my sets.

New or vintage I am risk adverse with cards that sell at such low volume that it’s hard to gauge the real price. I also don’t like it when sealed is worth more than the highest priced card in a set.

The fact that Greninja Goldstar is selling for $10 is bonkers

I do feel like that’s one of the least bonkers things compared to most in the market

:man_shrugging: Some pokemon lost popularity

And I paid $3000 a year before that. Some people just buy the card they want now, at the current price.

coz no one wants to buy when prices are down and when everything is at all time high it is hot look at ppl paying $100+ for palantir that is like an $8 stock to me

This market is a ticking timbomb!!
At some point, the hype fades, people start cashing out, or bad news hits, and confidence cracks. Suddenly, people rush to sell, fear takes over, and the same momentum that pushed prices up now drives them down—fast.

Stock market, housing market, Pokémon cards… all have been on a 5 year run now. I’ve been saying for years there will be a correction but it hasn’t come yet and with the new administration, well we don’t need to talk politics on a Pokémon fourum

I don’t think the Pokemon market had a run in 2022 till surging sparks. Sure some will go up and down even in bearmarket. Bitcoin going from 69k to 15k was a correction or better word crash. Besides tech stocks most other stocks fell 60-80% in 2022. So it’s not a 5 year run it’s just a market going up with big corrections in the meanwhile but that’s always been like that. House prices been going up for decades the s&p for more over 100 years. But there will always be corrections in the market.

A correction on highly speculative assets & collectibles will come at some point. Probably when people least expect it

Can we talk about the insanity happening with Drowzee IR from SV Base?!? Clearly manipulated. I love this art and was always sad that it was a £7 bulk card for so long but now it’s suddenly £80-£100 and in massive demand.

Is there actually massive demand at that price? Or is it all artificial?

There is coordinated efforts to pump certain cards and this drowzee is one of the latest examples. I’m not certain how many true collectors are buying it at these sky high prices.

Watch as that Galarian Slowking from Chilling Reign rises next

I mean a lot of cards right now seem to be artifical like the persian from shrouded fable went like crazy for some reason, I think it’s just people trying to be the next person to catch the crazy stonk card that they can resell for 3x the original price

Pro tip get a job if you want a reliable source of money:)

There is demand but it’s got to be from the FOMO/Pump/NFT Bros people. Maybe some people ARE genuinely buying it thinking its the next great card to have and they’d better get it before it goes even higher (essentially victims of not being in the market long enough to recognise that extreme, rapid inflations like this are unnatural). But ultimately, it’s difficult to split the genuine buyers from the manipulators.

All I can see is that it IS selling, and PSA10 slabs have blasted up to crazy prices too.

It’s been all over IG and other social media which helps fuel the rise, and has been touted as the new Paldean Fates Magikarp. That card itself was nuts… beautiful art sure but I paid £30-£40 not long after it came out and sold it earlier this year for almost £150. I didn’t imagine this would spread to other cards.

I think this is also an Art/Illustrator Rare trend we’re seeing…how many times have we been stunned that incredible IRs, that often look better than SIR chases, can be picked up for a few bucks? A small degree of appreciation is arguably deserved for many of these but not this much.

There are also Houndoor and a Ninetales IRs that have been moving albeit not as wildly as Drowzee.
