As someone who can neither afford the box, nor the packs for the price they sold at, I feel I have no right to offer either side any sort of constructive criticism lol
Overall I think he did a good job. These cards have been in a box for twenty years, the audience insisting he use gloves to open was funny.
No one wants to wait for him to sleeve every card live (besides holos). If he has a group with him the easiest solution is to have someone sitting by the table do the sleeving.
Agree with the idea of a different “expert”.
It would be fun to do more cameos like his mom of the people buying packs (bit shorter though if there’s no relation) or games / charity drive / giveaway etc depending on pulls.
As many have pointed out about the poketubers bandwagon-y obsession with values, and speculators and that being so many people’s focus, it would be great if people on youtube breaking boxes just didn’t talk about values of every card. I get it, they’re worth a ton of money–and that of course makes you think about it. But if they had another guest that was just excited about the lore and history, and had a mic to provide commentary that would be sweet. For me, when I watch people break boxes, I go right back to being a kid and get excited over every single card and enjoy the whole experience. I want to see more of that. I know most on the forum just love Pokemon and love the art and the experience especially as with its ties to the games. For me it was all about the original games and then getting the cards was just that much more special.
Bulbasaur gets pulled.
Gary says, “Hmmm. Centering issues. Little corner wear. Light surface scratch. I’d say a nice PSA 8 Logan”. The crowd falls asleep.
If he’s doing another box break, I’d want it to be a simple modern set in a casual atmosphere. Just him and no other commentators, no hype talk, no talk about card value. Just opening packs and admiring the card art, maybe give some personal opinion what’s his favorite card of the ones pulled. The whole hype box breaks and price talk is really getting on my nerves lately, so a relaxed opening without high stakes would be a nice change.
