Implying every grading company is perfectly consistent.
My vote is purely contingent on something like this actually happening:
BAS alone was doing $100M annually
will this improve anyoneâs turnaround time
hopefully they can finally update their website now and you wont be left wondering if they actually have ur shit a month after it has been delivered ![]()
Hmm, some thoughts:
- Monopolies are not a good thing. However, I was hoping that BGS would be bought by CGCâs parent company if at all.
- Maybe with new owners, Beckett will have: 1) A customer service department, 2) an updated website, 3) quicker turnaround times and better personnel management, 4) direct grading offers through eBay, 5) grading-PSA Vault integration.
- Beckett will continue to exist as long as their doors are open. The MTG folks love them and the TCG Black Label chasers froth at the mouth for the 5x-50x returns. I donât see this dramatically decreasing their productivity, rather the opposite.
- Beckett will make Collectors very little money in the grand scheme of things. This is just another pissing contest with the only competitor left (CGC).
- I wonder what will happen to BAS. Although BAS is mostly untrustworthy for Pokemon autos, they are excellent for MTG autos.
- I wonder what will happen with the database leak. My guess is that Collectors will say nothing and it will fade into oblivion. RIP to the many Pokemon submittersâ private info.
I mostly agree with all the points @Dyl mentioned.
I genuinely hope that Collectors shows BGS how to staff a CS team, implement a better submission-to-finish tracker, and, most importantly, have scans of the finished slabs.
I donât think this current government gives a damn about monopolies.
Depends on what you imagine infrastructure to be. Lage and Frankfurt are 3.5 hours apart
Fair point infrastructure can mean very different things depending on context.
Distance alone does not always reflect how connected or accessible two places really are.
Hard to disagree antitrust doesnât seem high on the priority list right now.
Enforcement feels more reactive than serious or consistent.
Next 6 month timeline:
- BGS is killed
- PSA has a grace period where BGS cards can be regraded under the PSA standard at a discounted rate
- PSA introduces âPSA black labelsâ. BGS black labels need to be reviewed to make sure that they meet the standard. Again grace period with discounted rate.
Iâd be panic selling BGS black labels right now if I owned any.
Repeat with CGC 1-2 years down the line
Bro should write a 15 part fiction book with that imagination
I am quite positive about the news. Personally, I see more advantages than disadvantages. It is not like Beckett has been performing well over the last few years, so at least this move gives them a chance to improve their service. All the new services PSA introduced during this time are interesting and good for the community, including the Vault, the auctions, and the cooperation with GameStop. I am looking forward to improvements like that for Beckett!
PSA Black Label would be peak
It would not. It would actually be the beginning of the end for PSA. They wonât make that dumb of a mistake. Proposing a higher grade than their 10 is the exact scenario by which appears the first crack propagating to destroy the PSA mastodont
gr8 b8 m8 I r8 8/8
I wonder if these new gen kids can explain this! Nice throwback!
Cheers!
