CGC is very strict on centering. BGS and PSA are both all over the place when a grade is below 8. So your PSA7s can cross grade to either CGC8 or CGC6, with our without high sub grades.
Buy the card, not the grade. If you going for 7’s make sure what sub grade for you is most important. For aesthetics I personally think SURFACE and EDGES would be more important than corners and centering.
Broken record…
My mom used to say “If you don’t have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all”.
We get it Gary, you don’t like the CGC label. Get over it and move on.
It’s strange, the label definitely seems to look better in-person than in pictures IMO. I was 100% on team “label sucks”, but after seeing the slab in-person and holding it myself the label appears… decent? And I know others have already mentioned it but the case is incredibly crystal clear – maybe another thing that’s hard to appreciate from pictures alone.
It’s not this. It’s the same message every single time and not adding anything to the discussion. It’s like how Ferarri fans hate any Ferarri that isn’t red, because red is how it should be according to them. But at least a true Ferarri fan will see that a Ferarri in black looks as good it does in red. They will prefer red, but one in black is still a Ferarri.
Just saying every time that you don’t like the blue colour of the label, that the label is ugly, and that it doesn’t look good that isn’t adding anything. We know it, it’s being said every 2nd reaction page while others, that initially were against before (50 pages ago) see that it all ain’t that bad, the label/case looks good in person and value the fact that cards are protected on a same level (or better) as PSA cases do.
Which in the end should matter the most, isn’t it? If protecting cards and maintaining condition becomes second to how the label looks, than I suggest we all store our cards in our pockets and forget to take them out when doing laundry.
To be honest looking at the bigger picture, carrying on a discussion about whether we like a label or not is pointless, it can be concluded with “some people do, some people don’t”. Criticising the weight other people give to the aesthetic of the label in their purchasing or grading decisions is another one-dimensional argument, though I’ve already responded to that in the other CGC thread. All this just seems so tribal, childish and pointless. Or maybe it’s cos I’ve not had my coffee yet and I’m being a grumpy bastard, and seemingly hypocritical seeing as I’m technically carrying on the argument… hmm.
I just sent in my first submission ever today! I’ve never sent my cards in anywhere before but I’m excited to see these slabs in person while protecting some of my collection that I feel really needs it at this point. I’ll post again when I receive them!
Not sure if its been answered, but how often do the grade numbers come back off-centered in the white square? I have a feeling that would drive me crazy…
It’ll hopefully give you perspective on exactly what you’re looking for in a CGC 10. All those cards that are 9.5 or lower will tell you a story and it should help with pre-grading any future sub.
It’s like learning about grading all over again unfortunately
Sounds like CGC is similar to Beckett when it comes to 9- 10 grades. And below 9 they are more consistent than both Beckett and PSA. Is that safe to say?
When this is paired with a better knowledge of the hobby nuances and other benefits (subgrades, room to not abbreviate, fast turn around, etc) it’s tempting for me to think it’s the smartest grading option going forward.
It makes sense to me haha, but is there a particular reason why people choose to grade via CGC over PSA or BGS?
I’d assume that it’s mostly due to the wait times for PSA/BGS grading, but with CGC being much newer to the grading game - PSA seems like the safer bet with getting your cards graded & keeping/increasing their value.
