They’re not gonna be for sale regardless :man_shrugging:

Bgs? Say it ain’t so. That’s TOO dramatic :pensive:

Not that PSA does any better. They let a dic sketch slipped through.

I’m not even against some of their decisions, just emphasizing how they are more aggressive so they will warrant a stronger reaction.

Disappointing news honestly.

I agree that the vested interest argument strikes both ways – I’ve always been up front that my opinions are those of a person with a significant CGC collection. But I never said that invalidates peoples’ opinions. It’s just something that people should take into account when evaluating peoples’ opinions (including mine).

And yes, the causal line could go the opposite direction. But I think it would be incorrect to say that people don’t have a vested interest in “their” company succeeding and the “other” company failing. If CGC became the grading company of choice, I would stand to benefit from it. And if PSA totally eradicated CGC, PSA collectors would stand to benefit from it. That’s what I mean by “vested interest.”

Definitely prefer this. Maybe blue just contrasts well with pink Chansey.

Is this change also open to a 48 hour feedback and insight window?

Cheers!

Interest aside I think competition in general is healthy, CGC or BGS, I don’t really care that much.
But somehow that makes me root for the “underdog” in hopes of getting a more competetive market.
I think still 95% of my cards are still PSA though. But I hate the PSA dominance, not PSA itself per se.

That’s fair, and I will be the first to admit I hated them from the start, and they have done themselves no favors in the past 2 years. First their whole thing was “We grade harsh!”, then they realized they couldn’t get enough market like that so all the sudden you start seeing more 10s, like a LOT more. Now they overhaul everything to basically be a clone of PSA with a BL.

I understand their moves, but it hurts their reputation and scares people for the future. When you create a company like this, you need to stick to your original plan, or close enough to it imo. This looks desperate and I love the $5 charge per slab, just pathetic imo. “We changed everything, pay us to fix it”.

In fairness, the $5 per slab thing is no different from how PSA/BGS deal with similar issues. To my knowledge, PSA didn’t offer free reholders to people with older labels/slab designs. And BGS isn’t offering free reholders to people who want to “upgrade” their old label 8.5s to the silver label.

I agree, though, that in an ideal world they wouldn’t charge anything for the reholder.

I just think this is an unnecessarily polarizing perspective. First off, no one is forced to grade with one company over the other, it’s very easy to switch or use both. Most graders are loyal to the dollar and will use whatever company maximizes that. CGC gem mint 10 being worth the same as a PSA 10 does not take away from PSA. In fact, PSA prices, as the dominant company, will probably remain unchanged regardless if CGC exists or not. The most consumer-friendly outcome is both being equal competitors. Because then there is competition for submission (and lower grading fees) and people are free to chose either company without compromising the value of their cards.

CGC craps all over their early adopters, again. Lol
Anyone surprised?

As a messy collector who lives for drama, CGC is really the gift that keeps on giving.

I’ve always liked BGS. They were my first choice, then PSA and then CGC. PSA slabs are nice but BGS feels premium. Not only that but when I submit express with BGS it usually comes back in a week. I had a card graded in one day with them at the express level.

lets say you have a bunch of cards graded with CGC from 2020 that have a 9.5 grade with subgrades. do you re-case as a 10?

That’s my big question too. I wonder if some of mine that have 2 10 subs will have a premium in the old label vs changing over. The cards themselves I think will look great with either label. Way too early to see how the market accepts the new labels. I mean they aren’t even out for another month lol

No one is forced to grade with one grading company over the other, but people have existing collections graded with one company – that’s what I’m saying affects peoples’ opinions.

If this were a stock discussion forum, I think it would be a reasonable thing to observe that many of the people criticizing Apple own significant amounts of Microsoft stock (and vice versa). That doesn’t invalidate peoples’ arguments at all. It just means that people should assess the arguments being made in a particularly critical light.

I think that it’s also incorrect to say that the success of CGC doesn’t bear on the success of PSA. If I wasn’t collecting CGC slabs, I would instead be bidding on and contributing to the demand for PSA slabs. Across a large group of people, that can have a meaningful impact on prices.

There is so much talk about the label but not enough on the 9.5 removal. One massive reason people use BGS and CGC over PSA is when they think they have a card that’s a little better than 9 but not quite a 10. Will CGC make 10s easy now? Or is bgs gonna be the only option for those people?
