Remove the sub grades is because they don’t want to waste time.
Why make $15 in 2 minutes when you can make it in 30 seconds like PSA? 
You can make more money in less time, fewer employees.

I have to say, there are some pretty attractive high-end CGC 9.5s on eBay right now that have very low PSA 10 populations… The real question is whether the new CGC 10 GEM MINT will fetch the same premium as PSA 10 GEM MINT.

It certainly hurts people who had perfect 10s (black label) but even CGC has said in their comments multiple times they do not recommend that those people reholder.

@smpratte Honestly I can’t get across how well they covered all the angles in the talk. Including perfect 10s.
We know the answer to that is NO…But can it bridge the gap from where current 9.5s sit? Let’s all find out together

Some people are gambling as we speak 
They’re upgrading all 9.5s to 10s, because 9.5 was the previous gem mint grade and now 10 is the gem mint grade.
As to why they’re keeping the 9.5 grade, I’m not totally sure and it’s kind of a bad decision, IMO. Personally, I’d prefer they just remove it. But the new 9.5 grade is not gem mint – it’s now “mint+,” which is what SGC calls their 9.5s, if I’m not mistaken.

I know what bit that was but watching once I can’t be word perfect but it was definitely extra info to come but hinted that a 9 with two 9.5 subs would become a new 9.5 mint +.
A very short answer to why have a 9.5 is because you have all .5s from 1 upwards and not to have a 9.5 is strange to just get rid of that one. They went into a lot more context.
0.5 feels very alone.

The greatest feature of PSA grading is no 9.5 grade. Takes something simple like a 10 and makes it a confusing mess.

I wish they didn’t make the pristine labels all gold, but instead only changed the number to be embossed or whatever.

That would be too much change imo, even one half grades alteration is blowing up the reputation. I like the half grades personally
