Card Storage and Preservation

Classy stuff! I don’t have the guts to display my cards, but I’ll probably buy some of those.

I don’t have the guts either. I mainly got them for photographic purpouses. I agree the base is large but at least it is secure!

Thanks Reina, I agree! It is the next best thing to actually having the original plaque and stand…now that is big! Honestly, the picture makes it seem monstrous…like anything the stand looks better in person.

I never thought of storing the vending sheets like that! See I have a peeled set so I only have one unpeeled example of each to goo with the set. Using top loaders for an entire unpeeled set would take up way to much room. I like the binder idea…my only suggestion would be to find more form fitting binder pages?

Where can I get one of those PSA stands? Id love one for my Neo Revelation Celebi. Are they expensive?

Not very expensive:

is the one in the pictures above, i think. They do look nice so i will have to order a couple soon.

Just watch out, $5 for stand…$10 for shipping  I’m sure it is a better value if you bought more stands.

@ Reina: I believe ultra pro makes various sizes of soft sleeves not that I look into it. I would Search around their site or just google it. A lot of archival supplies sites have things like that as well. Whatever you do, just stay away form light impressions!

Everyone should have their favorite card for display, I just purchased one for a Lilypad Mew, the one that started it for me.

It is an archival supplies company. I used to use them for my acid free box and buffer paper until they underwent new management. Now they can’t get their sh*t together…I wanted over a month for a box before I canceled the order and got a refund

So i ordered 100 ultra pro standard sleeves for my cards and when they came I sleeved up my 2 ancient mews. They fit the sleeve extremley tightly, a bit too tight if you ask me because the card was slightly bending due to the pressure that the sleeve was applying to the sides of it. a mere .5mm size increase would suffice, yet my 1st edition butterfree and flareon non holos fit the sleeves just right. Is ancient mew slightly bigger?
I also ordered 100 purple dragonshields as Im not really happy with these ultra pros.

I also might invest in some ultra pro top loaders if its worth it, Im assuming the best size for me is the 3" by 4", but how thick should I get them? 3mm, 5mm? Im only storing 1st edition jungle, fossil and base cards. Suggestions people?

All foil cards will have a slight curve to them. The ancient mew is the same size as all other cards. What size ultra pro sleeves did you get? I use the 2 5/8" x 3 5/8" card sleeves and 3" x 4" regular top loader. No thickness was specified other than “regular” (thanks ultra pro :stuck_out_tongue:)

Your best bet for storing a large volume of relatively inexpensive cards is to use the ultra pro Pro Binder: www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-UP82600-Pro-Binder-Black/dp/B004T2CBD4 along with the 2 5/8" x 3 5/8" card sleeves. If I did not get my trophies graded I would have absolutely no hesitation storing them in that binder…imo they are that good.

My ultra pros are specified ‘pro-fit’ sleeves, 64mm x 89mm, which if im right is 2.51 inches, and that is smaller than the 2 5/8"? That small difference could be what im noticing?

Pro-fits made me nervous, so I switched to regular Ultra-Pro sleeves. Not making claims as to whether they are good or bad, just that the tiny bend made me uncomfortable. Since I’ve been sleeving upside-down in a regular Ultra-pro sleeve, then inserting that into a toploader, and then placing the toploader into a toploader binder, I’ve felt really comfortable with how my cards are being protected.

Yes nervous is exactly how they make me feel when my cards are in the, which is dissappointing, waste of 5-6 GBP that they cost me. I Have 100 Dragonshields Purples on the way so I am excited to see how these turn out. Although im looking into binders now, can ordinary binders hold dragonshields? Would it be worth getting the better fitting ultra pros and then top loading my favourites? How good is the toploader binder that you have funmonkey54? it sounds nice, youre cards sound well protected

I just tested a dragon shield sleeve in a regular binder. While it holds, the width of the dragonshield sleeve causes a little bit of bubbling, which is not something I would think you’d want. Dragonshields are great for playing, but that is the arena I would leave them in. I significantly prefer the way an Ultra Pro sleeve fits into a typical binder page.

As for your favorites, I would say sleeving them and placing them in toploaders is the way to go if it makes you feel the most secure. I do it because it gives me confidence in the storage of my cards.

As for the toploader binder, I absolutely love it. It is sturdy, protective, and well designed. It is a fantastic way to display cards that would otherwise be in stacks. Because my toploaders hold my favorite cards, the binder gives me a way to display them without sacrificing any protection or piece of mind. Also, the toploaders don’t slip out of the pages when the binder gets turned upside-down because the pages they sell are designed to hold them in place. I’m a massive advocate of the product for no other reason than my own contentment with the product.

Could you post a website that sells the specific one you have? Would love to take a look at it and maybe think about getting one. Ive read alot about dragonshields, alot of people say they do offer decent protection but there is better options to efficiently store cards that are for collecting rather than playing.

It’s as easy as that. Haha.

Great! when choosing toploaders, there are all sorts of thicknesses to go with the 3" x 4", Which is the best fit for single cards do you think?

I just use regular Ultra Pro toploaders. They fit well in my binder.
I have no clue their thickness. But if you go to eBay and search “Ultra Pro Toploader,” they are the exact same ones that you see depicted 1,000 times over. Haha.

My pro-fits haven’t caused any bending but you have to be careful putting the card in so you don’t nick a corner. I won’t ever go back now, I gush about them anytime I can.

I’m not too keen on either the pro fit or regular soft sleeves, they just don’t feel like they fit properly or give enough protection…

Mainly since the regular ‘crumple’ when put into a 9 sleeve page and it just doesn’t look nice like that. It may be a lot more expensive in the long run but i find ultra pro deck sleeves sit perfectly in both toploaders and binders, and if they happen to be out on a side or something and get knocked off it wont cause any damage.

But that’s just me.
