Question for you guys here. Do you like the slow revealing of cards in a set, or do you like to see very little of the set until it leaks a few days before release?
Two different examples not very far apart timewise:
Tidal Storm / Gaia Volcano: With these sets, we knew next to nothing until the set leaked. We didn’t even know what EX cards would be in it, as Sharpedo and Camerupt were not known until the set leaked. We also did not know that M Pokemon-EX would now have full art versions. If I’m correct, we had only seen artwork for Kyogre EX/Groudon EX and their Primals before the set leaked.
Bandit Ring: In this set, it is the exact opposite. We know exactly what EX cards are going to be in it, what they do, and we have seen high-quality images of all of them posted by Pokemon CoJP twitter (except Giratina). We have even seen the reveal of the 3 UR cards for this set.
Personally, I don’t like seeing all these cards early. It takes away from the fun of finding out what they all look like days before they arrive at my door. I like seeing some cards revealed from a set, but…with Bandit Ring it seems like too much.
Can I combine the two? Can I have a gradual release of information, including card reveals, intermittently leading up to the time and some surprises in the leaks?
If that’s an option, I’m all about it. Definitely love the information that renews the hype, but it’s best when there’s some special time right before and after release to be excited in a unique way.
I think it would be awesome to include some ultra ULTRA rare cards randomly inserted in the printing run that would be pulled around 1 in every 500 boxes or something like that. So maybe we would only know about it weeks after release when someone finally pulls it.
But I am impatient so as far as the question goes, I would rather just see everything at once right when they announce the new sets lol.
If you like that, collect Korean cards. Cards should be like Japanese set, but they change the order of a few cards. So are all SR in set released? Adding to that mystery is they have released guides in Korea showing cards in the sets. They only show first couple of SR. I have pulled a SR beyond what they show. So I am unsure of cards in set.
My thoughts exactly, that would be awesome. Secret rares which are actual kinda secret. Or boxtopper promos. Or retro secrets like meowth and pikachu from bw.
FA Charizard with great attack 1 in 5 case pull. You will love it when you pull it they rest of us will be bitching about a new card going for $300. I think super rare cards do not help the hobby. Does anyone know of someone who started to collect because a card is hard to find. But I have heard of people who got tired of hobbies because of expensive rares.
We should start talking regularly then! Would a scan of my two be enough proof? =D
I would have put a scan of it on bulbapedia, but I am limited by our image department to 1 card image per artwork, and honestly, the German scanned better.
To go back to the question posed in the opening post: I’d probably say less is more after seeing what they’ve done with XY7. Some teasers are nice, but we know almost every single card that’s going to be in Bandit Ring and it’s still a week away, which means they’re probably going to end up spoiling the entire set before release. Or maybe I’d be less underwhelmed with knowing every card in advance if I didn’t find this set so underwhelming in general…
