Canadians Customs Duties

Fellow Canadians or International Shippers,

I’m about to make my biggest Pokemon purchase to date. I’m not asking for ways to avoid taxes, as there’s no way the seller is going to mark it as a sub $20 package, but what is the better option?

Is it possible to have customs prepaid for or whatnot via FedEx or another shipping company? I’m basically talking about brokerage fees similar to when I buy through Ebay’s Global Shipping which is usally cheaper than what I’d pay in my Province most of the time.

Thanks.

Prepaid has been far cheaper in my experience. There’s a default $10 slapped on there if it goes via customs which is ridiculous. $21 card? $34 after import fees.

I’m just not seeing the info on any of the top 3 carrier websites when I try to get a quote. I don’t care for $10 extra, I might just have him send it and I’ll deal with customs if I have to. I’ve never had to pay customs duty tbh… I just want this to go as smoothly as possible, so if anyone has any recommendations even just as far as which carrier is better(UPS,Fedex or USPS) let me know.

I’d have it shipped regularly and then pay the customs fees at your local post office. I don’t know of any companies that allow fees to be prepaid besides eBay’s GSP, but some (like DHL) will pay the fees for you so you can get your package faster and then bill you for it. You should avoid this at all costs as they slap a ridiculous processing charge on it, which they really shouldn’t do and you can avoid completely by paying CBSA directly.

Yes I heard horror stories about DHL. lol

Thanks

Have they explicitly said they wouldnt mark it down? I would ask them if you haven’t.

Alternatively you could try to find someone in the states that you trust that you could ship the package too, and have them re-ship it with a reduced customs value.

It really depends on how customs feels that day in my experiences. lol

I can’t even see what category to place graded cards in lol. Regardless its all the same for the most part and misses the $10 flat fee charged by CBSA.

From the flatest / coldest lands. Manitoba
