Besides ignoring them and hoping that the lack of sales dries them up, is there any legal action we/you/I could take? I posted in ebay garbage about an auction listed fake 1st edition base charmander, squirtle, and bulbusaur that actually sold for $350. Albeit they were listed as “Proxy” it blows my mind. What if Psa starts letting them slip through?
Nothing
Big sad
PSA actually graded multiple Yu-Gi-Oh! fake cards already in the past
Been talked about a lot before, but having a true 100% identical counterfeited card would be extremely hard to do and if done no one would know about them unless they knew someone who was doing it. Most fakes can be identified by a trained eye which is the important part.
Kinda one of those “cross that bridge when we get to it” kind of things given how unlikely the above is.
Sucks that newer collectors would fall for this though.
Counterfeits happen all the time.
It’s not like we can stop all of them.
Luckily we have ‘experts’ (no ill-intent here) and databases on this board that will gladly help with differentiating between fake and real.
I think TPM makes it hard for counterfeiters with their unique holo/ reverse holo pattern. (especially in the modern sets)
Making the patterns on the full art GX/V/ etc. cards require (MAYBE) specific patterns/ materials/ machines.
Something I think that counterfeiters do not have the resources for.
And this is the main reason why I think it should be enforced more by eBay and the Pokémon Company itself. Especially since these counterfeit cards are basically against the law (unless you’re from China ). Unfortunately there are still a lot of people making them and people buying them.
I don’t have too much against actual custom cards (although those are also illegal), but counterfeit clones of real cards simply shouldn’t be allowed to exist.

Agreed, I’ve honestly considered buying proxy version of trophy pika/illustrator. Gives a good physical display option for those that don’t care about owning the real thing.
Basically unofficial replicas. Would be really interesting if the PKMN company did official replicas. I know it’s done with fine art and in the MTG community ie the collector edition cards.
It’s really sad. Anytime I see “proxy” on eBay it just, I mean it totally sucks.
It’s especially obnoxious to have to filter through “pRoXy NoT aUtHenTiC hAnDmAdE” kindergarten crafts when looking for hot cards like 1st Edition starters, Shining Charizard, etc. For every authentic card, there’s five more listings for utter shit.
I agree that I wish Pokemon would step in but if I were a copyright lawyer working for them it wouldn’t seem worth it to pursue something that they haven’t made money off of in 20+ years.
It seems besides sourcing information on what to lookout for and making it widely known, at least in the new to collecting community, people will keep getting fooled and spending hundreds on fake/proxy cards
It really sucks - I’ve seen these popping up for some rarer promos as well and it breaks my heart.
The use of the buzzword “proxy” is what stops the major platforms from taking them down
You can report listings on eBay that are selling fake cards. Not sure if it actually does anything though.
