Can anyone explain what these clear square tabs are?

I’ve just received a psa card in a really old psa case. On each side of the card itself there are 2 little clear square tabs on the edge of the card. Can anyone explain what these are? Is it something to do with PSA practises years ago or is it how the card was sent to them? Also, if recased will PSA take the tabs off?

Great question - I notice those squares in new slabs (4xxxxxx) that I have too, except they are smaller in size. Always wondered myself!

It’s in the plastic of the case. Totally normal and common defect.

it looks like it’s stuck to the card? Does this devalue it at all?

Every example I’ve seen has been within the plastic of the case and not on the card. As I mentioned it’s a common defect so there’s no reason to think this should affect the value.

I could have sworn they were attached to the card but I’ll double check when I get home..

@pkmnflyingmaster you’re right they’re not on the card

I have had that plastic stuck on an actual card before but usually it is just on the case.

It actually looks like sticky tabs on either side of the card

It might look like that, but thousands of slabs have this minor defect and it’s just something that occurs during the plastic fabrication.

Thanks for the info all

I also used to wonder this. The picture below is the same card shown in a different lighting.
To make them more visable, I recommend holding a LED to the side of the PSA case. This should make any squares light up white.
