Dude, those are great displays!
Thanks @taizokai! Just had to mention the amazing surfin’ Pikachu, give it the respect it deserves. Freaking sick!
The recent success of the art contest prompted me want to share a few little related things. I found a frame that matched Slowbro perfectly, @liron. But then… I happened on a matching frame while thrifting and painted it. But now, alas, this means I need to find a 3rd frame and paint me a Slowking… perhaps a violet frame… yes…
For anyone who might have been curious about my avatar, here it is in full bloom. It was a Bday gift I did up for my best friend that I play the old games with competitively and for fun. It’s an inside joke, but probably not as esoteric as I might think, really. I went out of my mind and did 3 versions at the time, and it was worth the shock on his face when I pulled the red from behind my back, followed by the blue. I am the “clownitist” with the clowny Mime.
And now, getting back into the cards, here’s some goodies I’ve acquired fairly recently in a very impulsive way, having nothing to do with my personal collection goals, but here we are and I couldn’t be happier having them. Got the sheets for a steal–seller didn’t know what he was doing, I suppose. He had a ton and they all sold out in a day.
And here’s my first unpeeled Coro, a must have!
On the next couple of updates I’ll get back to my cards–been filling in some long time holes before I unleash more of my collection
Congrats on the sheets, I imagine they get scarcer by the day! And good luck on keeping them sealed (which is something I never succeeded in).
You’re right on the frames for paintings, they match perfectly - and yes, you absolutely need the Slowking now!
Congrats on the additions! I remember you telling me about the story behind the artwork. XD And love those sheets - they wouldn’t last a day in my hands, unfortunately. I’ve always been curious as to how the experience would feel to unpeel them ever since I was a kid and I know for a fact that I’d give in. Haha.
And those frames? That artowrk?
I suppose I’ll surely have to add Slowking to my mountain of projects.
The gif was truly a remarkable one. I’m dying
I am firm, I am resolute. I will succeed in not peeling these. I am in control of my fate!
OOOOOOOOOOOoooooo HECK YES @brendantheclayboy. Been waiting for this ehehe
This drawing was one of the first things I saw when I got on here and I remember thinking “okay this place seems cool.”
Eager to see what else you have in store!!
Also will you peel or keep sealed?
Glad you like, @imakunizauntie !
I’m sure for his next birthday I’ll do another accompanying piece with different mon’s. I’m crazy enthusiastic like that
(edit) Oh I’m keeping unpeeled all the way! Already have all me vending cards mint-like!
Haha I’m honored thanks my friend!
What a wonderful day in the life of E4! I pop on, and there are not one, not two, but three of my favorite collectors’ updates (just the morning after another *Cough Azul*), following the night of this occurrence?
I received it, after the long wait (almost 2 months).
My dream card. The dream card that makes up dreams. Prepare for a lot of dreaminess and the use of the word dream.
Porgyon has always been one of my favorite Pokemon–the concept, the lore, the uniqueness, etc. Every card he’s been released on has been special. But there is something extra special, remarkable about this one. The colors are lysergic, jazzy, mathematical, cybernetic. My eyes get lost in the cosmos that is the “sky” of the background. The void. Very 64-bit reminiscence. Dark matter. The edge of the dream world. The slots and games evoke that isolated, islandic space of the dreaming conscious that you escape to, that you dwell in when you yearn for magic, just as I did when playing Red and Blue. I can’t put into words, further, how exactly this space transports me beyond the realm. It just does.
There is nothing that serves as greater testimony to Imakuni’s genius. It is one thing for fans to recognize the motivation and brilliance of concept after the fact–but for the creator to understand the significance, to have the foresight and vision to interpret the Mon in such a fantastical and truthful way, and depict it so faithfully, and simultaneously symbolically (and representatively)… that is genius.
As someone else had said, the fact that he is synthetic, computer programmatically manifest energy, and found amongst these slot machines, just as he was a winner prize in Red/Blue, he is thusly a fan Club Card needing prize points to attain. Is there greater lore, greater nodding love to the legacy of Pokemon incarnate? Hell, even needing the most points for the Fan Club is an ode to the original difficulty obtaining him in the game.
And now the ode to Imakuni’s Dream Porgyon is complete. Behold, the masterpiece:
(thanks for the gif Taizokai)
I also want to thank @azulryu especially. This has long been on my dream list, but he woke me to action in getting it. It was his experience (coupled with being on E4 for a long time and seeing it come and go through the years) that helped convince me I ain’t gettin’ any younger, and the card ain’t gettin’ any cheaper! So I just buckled up and clicked the high bid! Couldn’t be happier. Thanks to everyone as always in inspiring me to go for what I love.
Big congrats! These pictures really do it justice
Lovely update. The lava lamp really drove this one home. Congrats on the pickup!
@brendantheclayboy, congrats!! Been following your buy thread and was hoping this would be the big update. My fan club pory makes me feel the same way - welcome to the club!
Congrats on the pick up! Always nice to see someone finally obtain their dream card…
Agreed on the 64 bit reminiscence, Porygon is like a Pokémon that by design is stuck as a Kinebuchi time capsule.
Boy oh boy. What an update - and what a magnificent centerpiece for any classic Japanese orientated collection.
Not only your presentation, but also your beautiful text did this card the upmost justice.
I honestly can’t think of a better caretaker for this card than you, Brendan. I’m sure Porygon and Imakuni themselves would greatly approve of this card finally being in your hands.
Good job, my friend.
This is the BIG one! Congratulations to you! So happy to be celebrating this occasion with you and the rest of the brendantheclayboy fan club!
Thank you everyone!
@macarver, agreed, the fact that Kinebuchi sensibilities are in this makes it even more appealing to me. When I first saw the card I thought it was him, and was amazed it was Imakuni. These days I know Imakuni is capable of anything!
@muk, thank you man. Your words are wonderful… I am truly warmed to hear you say that, it means a lot to me. You have inspired a good deal of my collecting since joining E4, and I am so glad we have similar sensibilities, and within that, can appreciate people like Imakuni, share our appreciation for incredible artists like him. S’what this is all about! You very much had a part in my attaining this, that I cannot deny
And @taizokai, you just have such a way of bringing such a satisfying smile to my face. Thanks so much man! This is a big one for me indeed. And I just can’t stop looking at it. When you see it in person it really brings you in! I’m glad we were able to keep up about it as it was happening. I was very excited to show you! Cheers, dude.
Congrats on the Fan Club Porygon!! I love that card.
Unbelievably happy for you man! So many conversations about this card and you finally got it! I love the lava lamp addition. I can’t imagine how excited you were to finally hold it!
Thank you @deltazero! Not only do I adore your collection and your amazing taste (and look forward to your next update), I remember how intimidated I was looking through it when I was shopping as your Santa! Your Porygon looks amazing–hope to see you land that Eevee.
@azulryu, hahahaha! I was shaking, shaking! I almost wanted to cuddle up with it last night in bed, but I had to look myself in the mirror and say, Brendan, it’s okay, it will be there in the morning
And the gif train was stunning. You really know how to weave a narrative from those. I am learning from the best of the best, and I have learned much in the ways of the gif mastery! (love that Sokka one)
