Hi. I found I had 2 samples of Horsea (Mystery of the Fossils). However, they are kinda different in the borders. Do borders mean something??? Are the cards fake???
You’re gonna have to point out what the difference in the borders is, I don’t see it
@nish , the thickness of the borders. They are a bit different in both cards.
They both look fine, just shifted slightly between different prints. This is not really a card people would bother faking.
If you want to more easily ID fakes I’d recommend looking at the rosette patterns vs the black text on a card when you scan at a high DPI.
This for example is fake:
You can see how the rosettes bleed into the black text. Cards are printed in layers, with the final black text layer being vectors instead of rasters. This causes the black text to be sharp on top of the rosette-patterned raster images. Here’s how a real card looks:
Notice how “crisp” the black text looks on top of the other rosettes. The reasons that fakes aren’t able to do this is because they are simply high-res image scans that merge all ink layers together and get reprinted. This “bakes” the whole image together as a single raster image, which means that you end up with rosettes in the black text layer. Real cards are printed with multiple layer passes–raster for the card frame / artwork, and then vector for the text.
Thats called centering. When the cards are cut its not the same or perfect every time. Centering is a criteria for card grading so a card with a skinny side and thick side is poorly centered. The card on top has bad centering so whenever it was cut way back when at the factory it wasn’t lined up perfect. When cards are made they come in a big sheet grid of cards and they are cut into individual cards. Just wait until you see some really bad cuts lol
They are the same, the one has a better centering than other.
