Damn! Best of luck if/when you DO grade. Those are some NICE pages you’ve got!
man…that is some serious HEAT!!!
I like binder collections better since you are able to store it easier. Also it is nice to be able to page through a binder every once in a while and look at your collection.
I’m strictly a graded cards collector. When I get that graded card I was missing and I keep it in my hand I feel like I see that card for the first time in my life. I can have 6 copies of that card in a binder but it’s not the same. It’s hard to explain feeling, but it’s something unique.
P.S. I collect PSA cards from 2013 more or less, when they were really niche.
My collection is both a binder (yes, only 1!) and a few graded cards. The binder is the original 151 Pokemon, the 4 WB stamped First Movie promos and a pack fresh, complete Southern Islands set.
Similar to what @azulryu said earlier in the thread, my graded cards are my personal trophy/favorite cards. I only have 6 right now but my set for these will max out at 11 total.
I only have one binder right now, but it contains my most cherished cards. It is the binder I had when I was 7 years old, and I admired that binder constantly because we were poor and I had to beg my parents to buy my Pokemon cards. I actually scored some rare holos like a 1st edition Alakazam and others, but I was a kid so of course I played them. A lot of 1st edition and shadowless PSA 1-5 in that binder, xD
Today I have moved into buying graded cards only. There’s some select favorites I am seeking out and purchasing for my own collection, just because I want the cards to be sealed and protected for as long as possible to maintain their condition. I’m also on the look out for great deals on PSA 9-10 cards to hold for future trades
I prefer binder collecting!
It all depends on your preferences and how you plan on displaying or enjoying your cards.
Honestly I didn’t think much about grading until recently when I finally was off work for months due to health issues. I hadn’t payed attention to the hobby like I used to, and started unpacking and putting up my Pokémon Collection (all kinda of merch) that’d been on storage for years. Then I started going through my binders and thought if I could display my cards on shelves in an eye catching manner that’d be amazing.
Then I learned about the grading process and have set aside cards I’ll eventually submit ones things start to calm down.
I currently have a battle with my brother because he prefers binders! Haha. And seeing a full collection on a binder is still a great display to see. I just personally prefer open presentation of my cards.
I can’t even tell the difference half the time between played and mint copies in a binder, especially since the most visible damage is on the back. If I’m buying something specifically for a binder I will gladly get a light played or even played copy and just save myself the money.
