Big Store Accidentally Sent Me An Extra Booster Box. WWYD?

Edit: Thank you all for the feedback. Part of why I wanted to make the post is because another E4 member I respect (I won’t name them) was saying in this instance they would keep the box, and in general I felt unsure.

I just contacted the seller and will wait for their response. :+1:

Even though in hindsight I feel embarrassed for posting this, I think it’s important to acknowledge when you should have had a firmer perspective on a situation, and figure out how to grow from it after the mistake. Thank you all.

Update: Hey everyone, I just wanted to post a quick update that the seller sent an invoice outside Ebay with a 10% discount. I’m personally fine with that.

I don’t care if you keep it, sell it, or return it. None of my business.

Same thing I would do when I realize I am given an extra $20 back. This is whether it be at a small mom and pop store or Wal-mart in my change from a purchase, or a big SP500 bank or a local credit union when withdrawing cash. I would let them know and give it back.

Reach out and let them know with a message. Maybe they let you keep it maybe they send a label to return it.

It tells you something about a person IMO what they do when nobody is watching/nobody will know. Quite unrelated but it reminds me of the “shopping cart theory” and I would presume people who would keep the item are more likely the same people who don’t put their shopping carts away because “it’s someone else’s job”.

You’re asking others to justify keeping it. You know it is immoral, but you are justifying it due to the companies size and what the money means to you in comparison to them.

Do you my dude. It’s your decision.

@lhh,
If I was planning on buying more product to open at some point, I would contact them and offer to pay a portion of the value (not all of it) to help cover some of their costs. Consider it like you got a really good deal on the 2nd booster box. I am guessing they put the wrong label on the 2nd box, and some other customer never received their box, so that company is out a box. Up to you though, maybe go through their reviews and see if they operate as an honest and good company. If that is how they operate, I would do the same to them as a customer.

Most of your post is talking out the mental gymnastics to justify keeping it. None of the details about the seller really matter, you paid for one thing and you received two. Doesn’t really matter if the seller is an 87 year old grandma or the biggest seller on eBay, you got something you didn’t pay for.

Just notify them and offer to send it back if they provide a label.

They’ll probably just tell you to just keep it. Then you can enjoy the treat of an extra box without guilt.

While you might not be swimming in inventory or cash, I truly believe honesty will give you far better dividends in the long run than a free booster box.

I don’t think how they operate should determine what you do as a customer. I would contact the store and let them know that you received the second booster box and see if they want you to return it or keep it.

A similar thing happened to me in the past (an extra separate box was delivered) i reached out to the seller, it turned out the extra item was supposed to be for another customer of theirs and somehow got mixed up in the label process.
I told them i wouldn’t mind forwarding it on for them if they arranged for it to be collected and shipped to the original buyer & that’s what happened.
Seller was very grateful and all ended well for everyone.

The reason i went about it this way was i thought about what if i were in their shoes?
In the end i am glad i saved him the headache of a potential eBay dispute and argument with a customer (since it probably would of shown up as delivered for him)

Worst thing that happens is you get exactly what you paid for.
Best thing that happens is they let you keep it, or you get a discount code for next time.

The only thing you stand to lose is your own self respect or sense of fairness. If you don’t care about that then keep it.

Good call IMO. Do not follow any member hard enough that they change your morals. They may have a bunch of cool cards and experience, but that doesn’t make them any better than you. Glad you made that decision.

Stealing is wrong, even if someone is “asking” for it

Keep it if you want

I was suggesting that if one were on the fence of what to do, seeing that they operate as a good company should sway someone to do the right thing.

Irrelevant statement since this would not be stealing.

To the OP: You should contact the seller. More times than not, they will just tell you to keep it since it wouldn’t make financial sense to pay your shipping label to return it, and then have to pay shipping again to send it to another customer

Deciding to keep something that you did not pay for is, in fact, stealing
