What kinda Sleeves yall rocking? Im looking for something sturdy and stiff thats gonna protect and not bend! Thanks ! ![]()
Dragon shields are my go too when I played mtg draft , miss those Friday night drafts lol
I hear really good things about dragon shield and kind of wish i started with them but im not the type to switch once i start. Been using these forever, and only recently started using the side load to double sleeve my cards. Been checking out there antimicrobial ones and might switch everything to those but thats a personal thing and honestly its probably not worth the couple extra dollars but it will bring me some peace of mind ![]()
For my binder copies, I use Dragon Shield sealable perfect fits (inner) and Dragon Shield white mattes (outer).
The white outer sleeves provide a nice contrast between the card border and the black binder backing, imo.
- KMC perfect hard inner sleeve + an ultra pro penny outer sleeve is my standard.
- the KMC inner sleeve is hard like dragon shield classic clears for curl prevention and extra protection.
- ultra pro penny outer sleeves slide into binders better imo; and it’s the outer sleeve that takes “damage” when using the card, so if i mess up a sleeve, I want it to be the cheap one.
- Dragon shield classic clear as the “inner” sleeve (standard size used as “inner”) + ultra pro penny sleeve as the outer for square cut cards like Topps
- ultra pro penny sleeves fit over dragon shield classic clears if you are patient. There is some size variation that can occasionally cause rippling, but that’s rare in my experience.
- Dragon shield perfect fit clear inner sleeves + Dragon shield classic clear outer sleeves for especially expensive (gradeable) cards you don’t want to knick while sleeving
- hard sleeves like Dragon shield classic clear and KMC hards have a higher chance of scraping/chipping a corner/edge while sleeving. The softer dragon shield perfect fit reduces that chance significantly.
Cards are loaded into the “inner” sleeve upside down then into the “outer sleeve” right side up. Dust/moisture has to go down the first sleeve then up the second to reach the card. Add that to a side load binder and dust will need directions.
This isn’t completely necessary, but I sleep well,
Edit- PS in case anyone likes magnetic cases:
Pro Mold mh35s and mh55s models fit ultra pro penny sleeves and dragon shield classic clears. Ultra pro and other brand magnetic cases require perfect fit sleeves. Mh55s (55 point thickness vs 35 point thickness) is better for double sleeved cards, especially when using a thick sleeve.

KMC perfect fits for the binder, they also fit in Dragon shield sleeves if you double sleeve.
Depending on how you’re going to store the card after you’ve sleeved it matters too.
If it is going to sit in a top loader than you can sleeve max. If it’s going in a card saver, just a simple penny sleeve that people have discussed above, is totally fine.
If it’s going in a binder, you may want protect the card from dust more than what a single sleeve can offer so the folding perfect fit sleeves are a good option.
Personally, the risk of putting on and taking off a perfect fit has me against them (even though I’ve never knowingly damaged a card while putting them on/ taking off).
I use the VaultX penny and perfect fit sleeves in my binders. Haven’t had any issues with them

But I do want to hype up specifically the Dragon Shield clear matte sleeves
