Does anyone know any reputable places that won’t rip my eyes out if I want to trade in some raws and graded cards in Tokyo and Osaka?
You need a japanese id to sell or trade to shops
I did some research and people have said shops accept foreign passports.
Can you try trading, and report back with your results? Would love to have confirmation first hand after reading this.
If you want reputable places, they don’t. The big name stores, Magi, Dragonstar and SNKRDNK, and pretty much every card shop in Akiba need a japanese id to sell.
Do you have the names of those said shops that accept foreign passports? Their prices are probably not good knowing they have the upper hand over tourists, and they’re most definitely not reputable.
And just extra info for the community, Magi only buys PSA 10 slabs.
Edit: I know Card Secret, the english card store, would buy from tourists if you have something very valuable. But my experience with that store wasn’t pleasant, he wasn’t very friendly and was nitpicking my slabs even though the grade was 10. Magi on the other hand doesn’t care about the card in the slab, just the grade.
Card Rush will accept foreign passports. Same prices offered regardless.
Cannot advocate getting someone with Japanese ID to sell on your behalf. This is not only due to liability reasons but also potentially tax related. Snkrdnk enforces this strictly.
Ok, so Hareruya will also accept foreign passports. I’m gonna go try and will report back.
Hi all, reporting in.
@Keishara and @sharkfyn were right, most stores require a Japanese ID or a work visa.
However, Hareruya is happy to accept passports. The prices were a bit rip, because you’re at a disadvantage without a passport. However, I was happy to let go of my junk slabs.
Could you share a bit more on what cards you have sold and the prices they offered?
This is correct. I’ve never experienced any issue when showing my passport when asked during a sale in Japan. Some have even never asked and just purchased the card straight off once they verify it. My Japanese is very basic, but its pretty obvious if you pull out a pristine raw or slabbed graded what you’re after. Just be polite and dont haggle. It’s just rude.
I got lucky after visiting Dragonstar. Their own policy was Japanese ID only (its individual store policy for ease of tax purposes etc), the young lad behind me at the counter followed me into the cafe two doors down and when I sat down politely bowed and enquired “Kabigon?” I’d just tried to sell my Grade 10 Snorlax and he was very interested in adding it to his collection. Usually as a westerner we would find this kinda creepy, but I’ve spent so long back and forth between Japan now I don’t even think about it.
Bro even insisted on paying for my cup of tea in thanks. Legend
