Obligatory:
I’m basic and I know it
Ya gotta link em! Pictures of shiny cards activates my neurons. The dogs from revelation are some of my favorite sugimori cards of all time.
Gen 3 is the last to feature mostly 2d art for new Pokemon though.
Starting from Gen 4, most fully evolved Pokemon’s first cards are CGI crap that gets worse and worse. Now they don’t even get the traditional half art but some soulless, churned out crap from 5ban or PLANETA.
i am as well. i was expecting this to be one of the first.
i know (most) people don’t care about newer generations, but saitou draws a lot of the rookies for new mons. the hisuian zoroark is a personal favorite debut of mine from him in recent years.
tragically, he has become more or less a machine with half arts, and is suffering from the same issues as himeno where a lot of his newer arts feel generic and lack “character” which may as well be CGI. thankfully his special arts still have it.
i think the worst generation for this is BW. nearly every pokemon started with a 5ban art and a generic background. while i’m still not a fan of most GX/V/modern exes, at least they tend to have more going on than just the pokemon standing in an empty cgi room
I’m gonna ask a very dumb question; but what is a rookie card?? I totally LOVE the first Absol posted, absolute beauty,
For sports it’s the first card featuring an athlete, the same may apply to Pokémon. In modern several variants of a card are in the same release (e.g. regular ex, SR ex, SAR ex), so I suppose any of them count as a rookie card for the Pokémon’s debut
That isn’t Pikachu’s rookie card, though. This is:
And it’s not exactly ‘the best Pikachu card’.

I will answer your prayer
Though also released with normal holos in the same set these are stellar!
