Hello and Welcome to the Base Set Holo PGR (Population Growth Report) Thread.
This thread is a Weekly Updated Thread covering all 4 Variants(1st Ed, Shadowless, Unlimited and Gapless) of Base Sets Population Growth Updated every Tuesday. This report is slightly different from looking at today’s PSA Population Report because it tracks/records Base Set Holos Populations over time. By doing so we can see the growth of these cards. Anyone is free to share/copy info shared here.
******************************************************************************Quick Guide on how to read my spreadsheets.
The First Set of Columns are the CURRENT Population.
The Second Set of Columns are what was ADDED for the week.
The Third Set of Columns are the DIFFERENCE ADDED from the previous week.
I’m not sure “Gapless” would catch on to be honest, if anyone was to post in a random thread "i just need 5 more Gapless cards to finish the set" I’d have no idea what they were talking about and probably wouldn’t be able to find out doing my own research unless i asked them specifically where as “i just need 5 more Base 2000 cards to finish the set” i would instantly know what set they are referring too, same with any of the other names really
Gapless is such a good name for the 1999-2000 set. It is easy to pick up on and is instantly recognisable to all even if you don’t have a Pokemon background, I would even say especially if you don’t have a Pokemon background. But personally I don’t like to call it the Gapless set for me it will always be know as the Jukebox set
Before reading this explanation I thought that gapless was kind of a dumb name, but now it actually makes sense. We call them shadowless because they’re missing the shadow, why not call them gapless because they’re missing the gap? Alternatively I think we could call it something like “base 2000” or just “2000” since no other set is referenced by number
I spoke to @funmonkey54 in the past about adding a name to their CGC case - though to no avail; based on the fact @garyis2000 had originally named shadowless variant – ‘No Shadow’; PSA eventually extended it to the term ‘Shadowless’ based on Gary’s extensive contributions.
Also, as @shoe stated a while back: as of March 16, a PSA 8 Blastoise and a PSA 9 Charizard were put onto the census – then a total of two cards; and by March 22, a PSA 10 Charizard was added to the census (Rusty’s Charizard).
Just gonna stick with Base 2000 like a regular person, which clearly communicates the set and its distinguishing factor, and has consistency with other sets like Fossil 2000, thank you.
I’m glad PSA is going to recognize this set because it’s my favorite print of Base. Even with the Gyarados indentation oversight, which keeps me up at night, it’s the highest quality print of the set with its fewest errors. I will probably never own it, especially now that it’s formally recognized and will spur a lot of grades and attract a lot of attention, but I will always admire it.
