As the title says, ALT automatically sends your newly purchased card directly to your vault without the option of shipping to your own address first. Once your card is in the vault you then submit a request to ship your card to your address, where you’re charged a 1% fee up to $100.
Not sure how long they have been doing this and if I’m just late to the party, but to not have the option to ship to yourself initially is scummy.
Alt actually has some good cards come through their auctions every week. I bought a few cards on there in April, and I was also annoyed I had to “send” them to the vault. But I just immediately shipped the cards to me from the vault, and from the auction hammer to the cards being in my hands was exactly 1 week. There is a 1% fee for withdrawing from the vault, which is pretty annoying.
Putting aside their auctions, I do really love their app as an auction finder/tracker. You can find and add things to your watchlist from eBay, Fanatics, Heritage, etc. all in one place. I also use the app to find past sold prices for cards. It makes it very convenient to click on a card, a grading company, and a grade, and then look at the recent prices.
Yep, the desktop site is fine with me. Meanwhile, the mobile app runs like a Psyduck anytime you ask it to do anything. I definitely don’t have a top of the line phone but I’ve never encountered performance this sluggish except with the Alt app.
Its just an extra step, not a big deal. I find their extended bidding practice to be far more atrocious then clicking a few extra buttons to ship to me. If anything the ship to vault saves you on taxes.
