Anyone else seeing way more than just Pokemon stuff on eBay?

On occasion I’ll check my saved search on eBay that’s just “Pokemon” sorted by recent listings first to see if I can snag any deals. But today I’m noticing that I’m getting 3+ million results instead of the usual <1 million, and a ton of them are Magic or Yugioh. Anyone experiencing the same issue? Or have any idea why this has changed?

I have not had that specific issue, but this evening am noticing that cards I was getting under a search this morning are no longer appearing under that same search. I have had to search specific card names to find what I’m looking for.

I think I know the catalyst for this post and yeah, it’s because sellers list under a wrong category and/or one “item variable” you can choose when listing, like “card type: Pokemon” or whatever is set wrong. Might happen when they list a lot of Pokemon and forget to change the preset, or they just abuse the exposure they get. If it happens often with one seller, I just exclude them in the search.

I noticed the same thing tonight. Newly listed results under search term ‘Pokemon’ has yielded around 600,000 results pretty consistently for me, now I’m getting almost 3 million results with a ton of Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh. Gonna investigate a bit, seems like default search settings were changed or something

So for me, as I refreshed some of my tabs with different search terms, I noticed the category changed from ‘Pokemon Individual Cards’ under Toys & Hobbies to ‘CGC Individual Cards’. Not sure why this automatically switched, but I could see how that pulls in more listings from Magic and the like. I’ve never really looked at any of this before, but I think this is what’s caused the changes for me at least.

Edit: When I input a new search term, eBay defaults to CGC Individual Cards instead of showing All. I have to switch it back to All to get normal search results; maybe some sort of auto-detection thing.

You’re definitely right about the categories having changed. For me, though, even when I switch to All, I still see all of the Magic/Yugioh stuff and get 3+ million results. I’m going to call customer service tomorrow and see if they have any fix to this. It still doesn’t clear up why I see so much non-Pokemon stuff even when I just search “Pokemon”.

i am glad to see others noticed this to . its ruined my method of going through listings of pokemon individual sales. as some listing do not include pokemon in there title.
i reckon if enough people ask for it to be changed they might do something about it.

Maybe leave the Category at All and try filtering by ‘Game’ in the side bar? You can select just Pokemon, which might help.

your’e a genius !

I’m glad I read through this thread earlier because I’m listing a bunch of Yugioh cards right now and someone just messaged me this

“Stop listing your trash magic cards under Pokémon. Sorry no one likes magic anymore, stop jacking up the search results because you’re salty magic is dying.”
