Anyone buying CGC cards ?

I realize all slabs are tamper proof. But are any inferior to the others in a significant way? I think as a buyer that would be my main concern, not looks.

They better not change it. NEVER give in to the mob, especially one that will never be pleased as they are immovably beholden to another grading company.

Let’s not kid ourselves, the only way CGC’s label ever appeals to a lot of older collectors is if it were to cease to exist. They’ve put their stake in the ground with PSA and literally nothing will change that.

CGC if you are reading this: don’t give in to the mob!

My only critique for the CGC label is I can’t really tell the difference between pristine and perfect at a glance.
I wish there was another indicator aside from the gold 10 (I know they say prestine/perfect but from far away or a quick look can’t tell the difference), maybe the border of the grade was also gold for perfect?

I bought my first cgc card a few days ago. I did hold one for the first time two weeks before my purchase and I do like how clear the cases are. Whole new level of clarity for a case which is nice. Tbh PSA vs cgc I don’t have a preference for one over the other apart from who provides better customer service and I’m fed up with PSA at the moment.

There’s no way that gaudy blue billboard label will ever enter my house unless…

I have a million dollar idea. Have tasteful Stickers made to go over those blue monstrosities. Use soft, inconspicuous earth tone colors that will highlight the card and not overwhelm it.

Thank you;)

Not yet. Might be worth worth it to buy them while they are at a lower price to resubmit to psa or bgs :joy:

Entertain me.

Hypothetically, if CGC fixed their labels and centered their grades. Would you consider CGC? Are they other factors outside of slab aesthetics that you are concerned with?

You also mentioned that you might consider CGC if PSA refuses to grade a card. Is that still a possibility? Or does the label just kill it for you?

I wonder what percentage of ‘PSA10’s’ would get a CGC9-9.5.

I would guess more than 50% of them. From what I have seen, as well as the submissions I got back, CGC is extremely strict on the top end. They are very strict on centering, whereas PSA is much less so. Most of the 9.5s I have gotten back I would consider good candidates for a PSA 10.

I think if CGC continues to maintain its turnaround time as well as the consistency in their grading, I think it is likely they will continue to grow.

While I’m not a huge fan of the label, I do like the clear case better and an planning to send some cards soon to get graded by CGC. I can’t get myself to submit to PSA and wait 6+ months.

As for their label, someone could make a perfect fit sleeve that could be a solid color around the label to hide the blue and just leave an opening where the grade and maybe subgrades show. Just a thought.

This is the same person who called everyone who graded with PSA “cultists” and that they have stockholm syndrome…

Well as someone who thinks centering should not have a huge affect on grading, definitely prefer psa in that regard.

Fair question. I would send in many cards if not for that label especially since Charlie is involved. With that label, and with cards PSA won’t grade, that’s tougher. I’m like 50/50. CGC grade them or leave them ungraded? Maybe a label sticker I mentioned earlier would move me to try.

Busted lol. Honestly, I think we have a lot of “plants” here;)

I’d love to just to support Ludkins, but as long as CGC remains inflexible, I can’t help but be hesitant.

I agree. PSA isn’t as harsh on centering, but they are harsh on indents imo.

So far it looks like CGC is pretty critical of centering. But its really tough to compare 1 to 1 as their grading scale is different from psa/identical to beckett. And they are brand new, so the sample size is small and mostly consists of modern cards. Where PSA has 25+ years of grading to pull data.

+1 for “King Pokemon Collection”

So cgc isnt as harsh on indents? Indents were always on par with creases as far as damage is concerned to me.
