Anyone buying CGC cards ?

I don’t collect labels but I prefer a “homogeneous” collection of slabs. Most cards have enough population size that you can afford to be picky about the slab. Ofcourse if it’s a truly rare card then being raw or choice of slab won’t matter in the least.

Holy shit they are, I sent over 200 cards and didn’t receive one 10…

@teamrocketop ,
Interesting, would this indicate that a CGC 10 is the best card to get instead of a PSA/BGS 10? Therefore CGC should be the highest priced?

Will be interesting to see what impact this has on the market.

Man, I know the label isn’t a lot of people’s favourites but it’s crazy to me that people are ruling out CGC just because of the label. Yes, they’re important from a visual perspective but you’re ultimately buying the card and the grade it has. I exclusively collect PSA since I prefer to have a uniform collection but a mint card is a mint card. If the label is that important to you, you can always cross it over. I don’t know, no disrespect to anyone who feels different but I feel like people are collecting companies/labels instead of the card. Labels can always be changed, the card can’t.

I would think that, showing how hard it is to get a 10 but people aren’t as open to change.

I’ve been collecting for 60 years and grading since 1994 and even I can’t get past that horrible label. On my comics the label only took up 1/6th or 7th the space. On the card it’s a third AND ITS LIKE FLORESCENT BLUE. First thing you notice is that label which is what the dimwits that created it were probably trying to accomplish…”Screw the card. We’re CGC so look at us” lol.

I know it. Except I don’t use Instagram so I’m busy weeding thru posts here anyways. I’ve been hoping less of these threads will keep popping up. I’m hoping for more interest from people in the cards themselves.

Let’s stop talking about the case. Or who opened what box at what price. Who cares? Let’s go back to simply enjoying the cards!

I will say I think CGCs label is getting unwarranted hate. I don’t think it looks bad and PSAs label gets way too much credit. It’s the accepted norm but it is by no means good looking, just average plain and boring.

As for quality, Ive seen some cgc cards pop up that seem to be decent quality for their grade. Some 8s or 7s that seem like that could cross grade to the same grade in PSA. Its hard to tell without seeing the card in person of course. I’ve been tempted to buy some of my first graded cards because cgc prices havent taken off and the cards seem good condition, but I dont feel like experimenting with breaking slab opens just yet.

Serious question Gary, how much time have you spent with a CGC slab in hand to have so, so, so much hate?

He probably stared at one slab while on the loo and then flushed it down the toilet and never spoke of it since.

People saying they dislike a label isn’t unwarranted hate, its just a preference. In fact, CGC has been advised to adjust their card label, and their response was, “we are the largest grader of comics and coins, so we are fine”.

Either way, people can have a preference, that doesn’t make them toxic because your preference is different.

It may be something they change eventually, but I do feel like people need to hold a cgc card before they make these hate posts. Not a perfect company but for being like 3 months old theyre really not so bad and an EASY #2 grading company imo

25mm cgc light blue label vs. 20mm psa white with red outline vs. 15mm BGS off center black, gold or silver for those keeping score. CCG is the most symmetrical. They are really nice in hand. Love the hate. Better price for buyers.

Not sure who are ‘advising’ cgc to change their label and what about exactly other than complete personal preference. If I was a grading company and had someone tell me “your labels ugly change it” I dont think I’d particularly care. I’m sure PSA has gotten ‘advised’ to change their label by plenty of people.

I just really cannot fathom why people are this hard on CGCs label and not on PSAs which is honestly worst imo unless they’ve just accepted it as the industry standard. I mean, putting aside the boring white background with red border as basically the entire labels design, the way they cram text of card names that cant fit into the label and need to have every word abbreviated looks hideous.

Average, plain, and boring is a good thing. The label should serve one purpose, to inform… inform to you about the grade, the item, the legitimacy, etc.

There’s no reason for it to add aesthetic. That’s the card’s job.

Seriously. 5mm of extra label that allows proper documentation of the actual card is somehow terrible? When the case is a million times clearer in showcasing the card, which seems to be the issue people have with the label in the first place?

Their literal advisor is the person who advised them.

On what grounds? Consumer backlash? I guess that was well warranted advice because I just don’t seem to understand consumers with the amount of hate CGCs label has gotten. Do you know if the advice was for the label specifically for cards because it matches the same design of label they have for comics?

At first I wasn’t a fan of the CGC labels. I don’t like the fact that the number is a bit off center in that bubble, but if there is a .5 marker it makes sense?

I echo what some of the other members of the forum are saying… Collect the cards not the labels.

I’ve recently sent my largest submission to Ludkins to get graded. It is only 50 cards, but for me that is literally the largest submission I’ve ever sent. I’ve chosen to have 15 cards via PSA, 35 cards via CGC.

CGC for me is a viable option for all the cards that PSA refuses to grade. I’m getting foreign worlds promos, korean FAs, Chinese holos… unique things that PSA has stubbornly decided not to grade. PSA on the other hand is getting cards I know will have more “curbside appeal”. That’s things like Pikachu Promos, Charizards… etc.

I don’t think we should be arguing over the labels because both have their pros and cons. This thread was about “buying cgc cards” not about “critiquing cases based on some ludicrous opinions”.

I can see CGC becoming a large competitor not for those cards that people want to grade to return on their investments, but for a harsher grade. It’s undeniable that there has always been some doubts between 9s and 10s at PSA. “Strong” and “Weak” are adjectives that come to mind if people want to start something  CGC gives a nice breakdown like BGS, only theirs is through software… Meaning it isn’t as “objective”.

CGC will also one-up PSA over the fact that they do unique cards. I’ve sat on a few of these cards for literal YEARS to get graded by somewhere. I’ve tried the PSA route, but they are stubborn and set in their ways. If it isn’t base, no way josé.

I’m also grading something secret  Since I didn’t want to pay PSA’s prices for their upgrading costs. I think it’s a little counter productive to say that you don’t care about card values and everything gets graded equally, when I bring a charizard in to get graded I get placed three brackets higher for pricing??? Doesn’t make sense.

Just some thoughts…

Efour: Buy the card not the grade!
Also efour: yikes bad label no thank you

But in all seriousness I completely agree. I feel like people will just get used to it and this whole label argument will be a thing of the past.
