Any Germans or anyone know about current post from germany

Hi, can anyone from Germany let me know if German post has stopped padded mailers for international?

I bought some cards off a guy on eBay a couple weeks back and he never sent. He is telling me he is trying to find a way to post to Australia but the only option he can find is DHL for 70 euro and that German post has stopped normal international mail. He charged 18euro shipping on the listing originally.

The reason I can believe it is someone in Malaysia said to me a similar thing about their country (before I bought an item)

The reason I think it is a load of crap is he has listing up for same item at double the price I paid, so I think he just wants me to cancel the order.

Thanks

Sounds weird to me. I’ve received a card in a regular letter from Germany recently. I’m from Finland though so the same continent as Germany. But that sounds weird anyway.

During covid times there was a time last year when Finnish postal service didn’t send any mail to Canada and many other countries so maybe this is something between Germany and Australia? From my understanding international mail should be much better right now though. Not sure.

I haven’t sent anything recently but I don’t see an issue with sending to Australia when I look it up.

There’s a calculator for shipping cost here:

www.deutschepost.de/de/p/portoberater.html#/

It says anything between 10€-17€ depending on the size/weight/insurance.

I’m just tagging some random German members, maybe one of them knows: @goigoi @xianahru @burnedos @muk

I do know this applied to South Korea, Indonesia, and Singapore a few months back, where only DHL was available for a short while, but it sounds odd to me the same applies to Germany. If it is, it’s only when things are shipped outside of Europe, since I recently ordered some things from Germany without any issues (I’m from The Netherlands).

Thanks for tagging me, @quuador.
The cheapest option for a small parcel is €8,89, without insurance. Insurance up to €50 value would be an additional €4.
However, for an insurance up to €500 value the price is €46, and €60 for €1000 value. Every additional €1000 in value make + €14 in price.

So depending on what value of cards you’re talking about, the seller may or may not be full of shit.

Np, but I think you misread his post. He mentioned Germany currently only has DHL available as shipping option since this month, and just regular post office is closed (outside of Europe) for whatever reason, according to the German seller he’s trying to buy from at least. He’s asking if this is true. And if so, I’m personally curious why the regular post office is suddenly closed in Germany, considering this pandemic has already been here for 1.5 years now. Why now?..

Well, you are not allowed to send anything you sold, like a card, in a PWE outside the EU. If customs catch it and suspect something, they may open it and it’s gone. The only “safe” parcel option to Australia for example that can be insured is DHL 45€. Surface shipping is cheaper, but it takes 30-45 days and your buyer *will* get cold feet and ask for a refund. So it’s not 80€ or something but it’s not 18€ cheap either.

Are you in Australia? I was Rejected by both USPS and UPS when trying to send to Australia a few days ago. They told me as of last week. Australia isn’t accepting international mail. FedEx said they could ship but it was $130 for a small envelope lol.

Hi all, thanks for the replies. I am in Australia so it is likely our fault more than Europe’s (we are trying to have zero covid so very strict borders), possibly some international services aren’t accepting sending to us. My mail from Japan is coming no issues though. The item was 50 euro and 17 euro postage (so it’s not a high end item I can take a 70euro postage on). I’m also very used to waiting 4-6 weeks for stuff from Japan/Canada/USA so that’s no issue for me.
