Hey all.
Recently purchase some unlimited Korean Base set booster packs, these are very rare and there are not many examples of known genuine packs to compare them to.
I have suspicions that the packs that I have purchased have been opened and resealed. Please find photos attached below, anyone with experience or knowledge on evidence of pack resealing please chime in
-
Real pack on the left, suspicious on the right. Note the colour difference on the top and bottom foil, as long with the very flat crimp lines, which scream being flattened during the crimp being heat sealed
-
Top crimp is partially unsealed and air bubbles in it
-
note extreme colour/visual difference on crimps and crimp on suspect pack being very flat
-
another close up of bottom crimp, noting completely flat sections of crimp on suspect pack on the right
Please add your opinion on the legitimacy of this pack, I am considering returning it but I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts before i do that! Thanks!

Definitely surprised to see you asking such a thing Brendon! You know packs yourself pretty damn well, and you know everything to look for, and pointed it out!
It is resealed. No chance that pack on the right isn’t. So many reasons. But one glaring reason in addition to what you’ve already pointed out, is that the crimp ending line above and below the vertical lines (parallel with the bottom of the blue of the design art) is uneven, and becomes uneven when opened (top circle). And you can’t prevent a totally different texture (and lack of sheen etc.) from occurring in heating this wrapper. I’d return that sucker if I were you.
In the bottom circle it even appears as though the two sides weren’t even resealed together well, with one side sticking out. That could just be the photo though. The top circle and many other factors indicate it is a reseal. Idk why anyone would reseal these packs, but hey, this is planet Earth.
Curiosity got the best of me, opened it up, it was legit!

Even if they are mint, wouldn’t you think they could have just swapped a rare for a holo?
its possible, but holos are like hens teeth, rares are really tough to find as well! Pulling only 1 card that’s obtainable via theme deck is great as well, I know a few collectors who have been searching for these cards for years and have never even found a deevolution spray for example, so someone swapping a holo out and putting that card in would be pretty silly as well haha

Imagine pulling those in English 1st edition base set its a horrendous selection of cards. If someone was opening packs and resealing bad packs that would be one for sure. I know these are super hard to find but. If a holo came out odds are not a reseal but with that selection it remains a possibility. Id have opened them aswell only way to know and like you said they are still rare cards so I’d be fine with what came out.

I agree, but I’m happy enough that it contains pack fresh cards
I just wanted to chime in here and say that a lot of old Korean Pokemon has questionable quality control at best! I’m glad you took the chance and opened the pack. I have some Korean 2004 ADV booster packs, and my God, do they look like trash. But they’re 100% real. I had someone on eBay open a case because they said the pack was resealed, so I recorded myself opening a different pack from the same booster box to prove that the packs just have shoddy glue. Enjoy your pulls!

You have no idea how long it took me to get that Arcanine. It was card 101 for me. Venusaur was card 102 lol.
