Used to watch a snow called, “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters” as a kid and came out before Pokémon (Pocket Monsters).

One was obviously more “monster’y” or scarier than the other as expected with, uh, monsters. Ickis sort of reminds me of Pikachu, but more sinister instead of cute.
There were all sorts of monster characters on the show. From cute to questionable.
Was there any influence or inspiration from one to the other?

I don’t know about your question but just wanted to say I loved that show. My parents didn’t love me watching it because it was pretty weird.

yeah! oblina’s actor voiced chuckie from rugrats and others. iconic. tim curry even had spots on the show.
If only Akira Toriyama did designs for Pokémon …
I don’t think there was any real inspiration, especially from the original given the timeline.
That being said, now I want to see cards that give off an A!RM vibe.
