@scorrer11 Iâm curious to hear your thoughts on Magmarâs design. Heâs had a healthy amount of artwork over the years. But I havenât quite put my finger on what Magmar is. Whatâs your take on the bulbus spitfire PokĂ©mon?
some people have suggested he is a kaiju but im not 100% sure on this, i like the fact that he is stood up like a human but then has animal traits like camoflague(must be a bit of chameleon in him somewhere) the armour he has on his arms like a armadillos back for protection and spikes on his back like a porcupine for defense, sharp claws like a bear or honey badger, 2000+ degrees constantly so obviously flames here and there looks awesome(lets not mention he has duck traits but weak against water 
lol) but yeh just overall an awesome pokemon with a bit of everything my first encounter with it was a base set card back in school but to date my favourite image is my most recent purchase which is the japanese âeveryones exciting battleâ card which is my last post top right card which sort of looks like hes just been beat up with a black eye lol

Kaiju is a good shout. Japanese mythological creature seems the most likely origin. Found a Quora post suggesting Magmar is a type of Karura. I think the description was pretty accurate to Magmarâs design. Bird-like head, human torso and fire breathing. Wikipedia spoke of karuras feeding on dragons. Perhaps this is where the dragon-like scaly armor comes from. Similar to the armadillos you mentioned, perhaps even armadillo lizards.
As far as my favorite Magmar art, I like Shiraiâs 2019 Sun & Moon Family Box illustration. Magmar looks like a fire-wielding master. A sorcerer in control of his element, using his power to provide light in the darkness. Love the poise of Magmarâs right hand as he guides the flames.
Bet you dont have the fake second edition base magmar that i have from early 2000s. 
Of all my old pokemon cards, the only one fake was magmar sad
I dont know what it is about this photo, prob the backlight doing it but it looks so much better than the cards artwork in person lol ive had a look at the karura and now im going to have nightmares of evil golducks lol great selection of card, betters its english equivalent with a nice little charizard logo aswell
