A love for magmar ;)

@scorrer11, I have a 1st ed base set Magmar but it’s not exactly minty. Not sure what condition you’re after but if you’re interested, let me know!

yeh ill have a look if you have some photos and a price in mind, its not for grading purposes but i still want it to look good in my binder  thx

I collected only english cards, didn’t include those decks  i definitely enjoyed getting all the beautiful light pokemon in neo destiny! Skyridge was quite logically the most difficult one and hence managed to get those last. Atm slowly upgrading my legendary collection into reverse holos so that’s what i’m still doing wotc-wise

Magmar really gets shafted with all them non-holos

@joponnes i must admit these decks are the first japanese cards ive collected n its not 100% for me to be honest lol
i never got to skyridge cuz the pokemon started changing to the 2nd starters n i just prefered the originals so moved my focus to southern island, w stamp, prerelease etc
what did you do to make sourcing/buying cards more manageable(prices seem to really fluctuate dependant on set)? allocate a budget per month n try to stick to it? cuz i can defo get carried away sometimes lol wats do u find ur best source cuz if ur anything like me i keep returning to ebay :slightly_frowning_face: haha

@odds yeh u rele gotta search his history to find the holo versions but they are out there n i will find them!! lol

I bought my cards some years ago so i didn’t have to make that much adjustments, i tried to go pretty much from older stuff to newer + tried to take some heavy hitters asap out of the way. And i’m europe based so got most of my cards from cardmarket with some harder to find from ebay

@joponnes so are u waiting for the 25th to start selling up like alot prob will do lol how did u get along with cardmarket? cuz i just did not get along wiv it for some reason :slightly_frowning_face: so did u say u r currently collecting anything?

Hey all,
delivery today compliments of troll and toad from the us, tcg republic from japan and a few lil odds and ends for this and other projects from the uk.
Today adds a total of 26 cards to my magmar collection but still lots to catch

Hope everyone is having a good week at adding to their collections

Never had this thought until now, but is Magmar perhaps inspired by a Kaiju? Great update by the way! I see a sneaky Gyarados as well.

I just had a lil look but couldnt see one that looked like magmar but defo one that looks like scyther! thx yeh that gyarados completes my 2nd set of wotc prereleases and the pickachu/raichu complete my bulbasaur/squirtle decks apart from the big hitters venusaur and blastoise :slightly_frowning_face: the hunt continues lol

Nah, never gonna sell my pretties! And i’ve had very little problems with cardmarket, at least as long as i avoid buying from certain countries. And collecting atm as much as ever! Currently trying to find the final pieces of my topps collection, upgrading legendary collection into reverse holos, starting a tomokazu komiya collection and adding new items all the time in my grimer/muk collection!

@joponnes, my pretties hahahaha i love it lol, do tell which countries i should avoid lol if you come across a topps shining magmar you know where to find me  i jus looked at tomokazu komiya cards and for some reason he hasnt done any magmars(what a hater) lol when you do a set that has normal n rev holo of the same number do u put one behing the other or next to each other in a binder? ive not had this issue yet. wheres the link to see ur grimer/muk collection?

Well i don’t think it’s any secret that italy doesn’t have the best reputation with cards. Most of the italian sellers are ofc great but it’s the country i’ve had most questionable experiences.

I very rarely go for master sets, usually it’s just either regular or reverse holo for me, but if i do i place them next to each other. I don’t like the idea of hiding a card in my collection somewhere in my binder it’s not visible. And atm my grimer and muk collection is only in my instagram but i’m making a collection post here too soonish (or that’s at least what i’m planning)

lil start of the week addition to my ever growing collection

@scorrer11 As requested, I went through all English and Japanese Magmar and compared it to the list in your first post, and these are the ones missing:

English:

  • Base Set ©1999-2000: the unlimited edition Base Set has both a version with ©1999 and ©1999-2000. The second was released in the UK.
  • Fossil ©1999-2000: the unlimited edition Fossil set non-Holos also had a ©1999-2000 version, which are a lot lesser known than the Base Set. These came from Australian red logo packs. Some more info in this Efour article.
  • EX Team Rocket Returns non-Holo Uncommons have two different codes at the bottom-left. For the Magmar the codes are FQ2-T6E-65C and FQ2-T6E-6GB. All English codes for the ex era sets can be found in this Excel that was once compiled by @tonysandlin.
  • Unleashed Reverse Holo simply seems to be missing in your list
  • Expedition Base Set had leaked Test Color MATCHPRINT cards. For the Magmar (and all available Pokémon) only two copies exist. Some more info can be found in this video of TCA Gaming (I’ve timestamped it at the Magmar).

You also seems to have the Base Set grey 1st edition stamp version twice in the list at numbers #40 and #50. Here an article with all 1st edition stamp variations, although just the regular thick stamp and misprinted grey stamp may be the only ones available for Magmar. It’s plausible a thin or back stamped version might exist as well for Magmar, although I’ve never seen it yet.

Japanese:

  • Quick Starter Gift Set - Green Deck no rarity. This is the same artwork as #5 Vending Machine Extended Sheet 3 (Green). The one from the Vending Machine is glossy with rarity symbol, and the one from the Quick Starter Gift Set is without rarity symbol and regular non-glossy.
  • Guren Town Gym no rarity. This is the same artwork as #25 Challenge from the Darkness. The one from the Challenge from the Darkness set has a rarity symbol, and the one from the Guren Town Gym theme deck is without rarity symbol.

Apart from that you’ve only listed one of a lot of cards, even though they have both a 1st edition and unlimited edition print run in Japanese:

  • Rocket Gang Strikes Back 1st & unlimited editions
  • Mirage Forest 1st & unlimited editions
  • Secret of the Lakes 1st & unlimited editions
  • Bastiodon the Defender deck 1st & unlimited editions
  • Magmortar vs Electivire Deck Kit - Magmortar Half Deck 1st & unlimited editions
  • Beat of the Frontier 1st & unlimited editions
  • Clash at the Summit 1st & unlimited editions
  • Dragon Blade 1st & unlimited editions
  • Rising First 1st & unlimited editions

All the other Japanese sets only have a single edition available, in most cases just unlimited (but for the CP6 and Pokémon VS Karen’s Magmar only 1st edition).

Hope that helps. Good luck with your collection goals! If you have any questions about the info above, lmk.

Greetz,
Quuador

Hi, i’m literally on the same collection goal as you! Didn’t know about the ex team rocket variant!

Just so you know, there’s a 1st edition and unlimited version of the Japanese Magmar EX torchic constructed starter deck 1/19. 1st edition seems a little hard to find but there are some on ebay.

Keep posting updates  Cheers @scorrer11,
