TL;DR: edlerly man ran a scam from 2015-2019; he was arrested in 2023 on those charges; he pled guilty last week; he’s now 84 yrs old and is currently out without bail until his sentencing in July.
…hopefully things move quicker with the Prototypes given the order of magnitude difference. I also don’t fully understand the international implications.
Seems as he was the one doing the selling and the counterfeit slabs/labels were supplied to him by other(s). If scams were prevalent even back in 2015, I can only imagine this issue is worse today (sports or pokemon).
It’s so easy to wake up in the morning and not partake in criminal activity, sucks to suck…
So the guy was peddling fake cards, in fake psa slabs, with passable-ish labels. Sucks that the main guy they talked to was on the hook for 300k of loss receipts, who knows how much potential value before pwcc called and told him it was all fake. Took 2 years to get through the legal system with fbi help due to wire fraud charges. Not exactly equivalent to the prototype issue but interesting to see some parallels of whats at stake.
If you’re talking about Xiao; I think that guy is unhinged and coping with being just as big of a victim as the American and European collectors that bought fake protos. That isn’t to say he didn’t scam other people in other ways (like whatever happened with PSA slabs… not sure if there was ever closure on that?)
Japan and USA have a working extradition treaty so no worries there
