4 1st Ed Neo Desinty Packs: Sell, trade or Keep?

Hi guys, so a few years back I was hunting for unopened booster packs/boxes. I have since stopped due to price increases, but one thing I did purchase was a single mint set of 1st Ed Neo Destiny Booster packs for a whopping 120 bucks. That’s 4, one of each art, for 120 dollars total.

Today the packs bring in $150-$200 it seems and now I feel confused at what to do. The original intent was to save and open them for a shot at a 1st ed shining card. I know they exist in light packs, so while I assume every loose pack purchased is weighed, I know this gives me that small chance regardless. The odds of having a shiny pull or pulls are still not in my favor and even pulling a holo would not really compare in pack value. Even less so than other packs since the price is based presumably on the chance of pulling a shiny.

My other goals include purchasing missing 1st ed base set holos PSA 7-8 range and buying a shadowless charizard PSA 9. I have the means going forward to do some, but not all of this. Should I forfeit my “1st ed shiny” dreams to go after something more certain? I already have the big 3 from base set in first ed as PSA 7 so the most expensive ones are taken care of. I also have around 50 unlimited neo destiny packs, so I can still get that shiny feel someday, just not first ed…

Total value of the 4 packs: $700-$800 via ebay before they take their greedy cut. I think of all the sealed product I own this shot up the most in the past few years.

Has anything inflated in price as much as this? It’s literally a 600% increase since I bought it!

Sell, trade or hold? What do you guys think?

The Neo series booster packs have shot up in price in general over the last two years or so due to the fact that they simply don’t have the supply of earlier WOTC packs. Plus, you have the chance of shinings in Neo Revelation and Neo Destiny, which is why they are the two most expensive sets in the Neo series.

Honestly, people here are going to give you their own opinions on the matter, but it’s really about what YOU want. If you want to open them, open them. If you want to go after 1st Edition Base, do that.

Personally, I think the Neo Destiny packs are only going to keep increasing in value, so if you hold on to them, you’ll likely turn an even bigger profit down the line. It’s kind of a double-edged sword, though, because if you plan on taking the money earned from those packs to get other cards, the prices of other cards will likely rise over that time, as well.

Just do what makes you happy. More importantly, go with your gut.

It might help you if you consider that if you pull a shining and its not charizard and it grades a 9 then you might not get the $600-800 the packs are worth. But if the fun you get from opening is worth that much to you then open. Packs were meant to be opened. If you open then my sealed packs increase in value too

The things I really love I could never get rid of.

If you can even mention getting rid of something…do it:)

Direction I’m leaning I think… I’ll probably wait until I finishing selling my current items for sale and see where I’m at.

I would keep. Imagine the price in 5-10 or even 20 years. Odds are super against a shiny but it could happen

I did think about the rate of growth for the set. They are growing at such a ridiculous rate that it’s possible they outpace most other product, but who knows…

I would not sell any, unless you need that money. The price of the packs will only increase as the supply dries out. Neo destiny packs can’t be searched iirc, atleast not the shinings.

I would definitely keep, seems price only going in one direction and it would have to be a ridiculous crash to see you lose out!

Always good to have a few sealed items within the collection!
