i mean they definitely didnt go down . . . simply due to the verification

IMO it’s very hard to see a future in which the sealed boxes will be worth more than 24 light booster packs + 12 confirmed heavy booster packs.
Sure, perhaps the box could carry the premium over those 36 packs if in theory we got to the point where there were actually only a handful of boxes in the world, then maybe. But I doubt we’re going to get to that point any time soon.
The packs have 2 advantages - more people who are able to afford them (much larger buyer pool for each pack) and they’re much easier to confidently purchase.
I can definitely see loose packs catching up a bit for some of the sets with rarer boxes, but I don’t think they will ever match the premium of a box. From my understanding, it can be near impossible to tell if an individual WotC pack is truly heavy without first knowing the box it came from and the amount of other packs from that same box that weighed heavy as well. So in reality buyers could end up with a spread of 30 light packs and 6 heavy, or 18 light packs and 18 heavy, and they won’t truly know. Plus if a particular holo was already pulled from a box, then the odds of that specific holo being in any other heavy pack from the box are significantly lower. Too many variables IMO for a buyer to confidently pay the equivalent of a box for 36 loose packs, because at that point they might as well buy the box.
Plus, any knowledgeable seller would be monitoring the prices of loose light and heavy packs to adjust the selling price of their box to guarantee that the box still retains premium over loose packs. And if loose packs do somehow gain higher value than a box, more boxes will be opened to sell for more profit, which would decrease supply of the sealed boxes, and yada yada yada…you know the rest.
The only thing this helped was Gary’s sealed case of 1st ed base boxes. What a treasure that is.
soon people are gonna just say screw it I cant afford a base box let me get the 3 packs
all this video told me is that pokerev is king

Exactly what I was thinking. It’s priceless at this point.
So…y’all think I can get that empty booster box off CG for super cheap?
“That’s an issue” lmaoooo

I find it funny Guru keeps saying how there are like 20 or 50 of these boxes left but he knows a random guy in philly who sold him the fake box that just has a couple more hanging around.
The way he explained the damage as no big deal, along with the creases in the top folding section, along with his reaction to being told it was being opened immediately leads me to think guru is that random guy in philly with a couple kicking around. How can someone lie blatantly about values and not be considered a possible resealer?

stephaniedesranleau:
All this look like a big setup. Reactions are too small. The buyer seems too calm. It will be massively watched because it’s so big to be scammed for 375K. Even more than if the box was real. So setting up a fake box opening this big will bring a lot more viewers and popularity to this video and the whole pokemon thing than if the box was real.
I can be wrong. But… seams fake. All this seams fake.
I’m wondering if it will have a negative effect on the market. Will people be more afraid to buy sealed products and even raw cards after that massively diffused video? Especially all those new investors than don’t know anything about pokemon but tries to make money of it…
We’ll see.
I first want to preface this that I am not a “fan” of the channel, I watched them a bit but I feel like people are pointing fingers at the channel without the full picture. Maybe I will be wrong in the future and I’ll look like an idiot, but I don’t know, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt here.
This post isn’t just only directed to you but to the other members too…the main channel people of dumb money are all multi millionaires who do options and stock trading for a living…meaning that they are speculators with insane swings on their portfolio. Some weeks they win millions and some other weeks they randomly lose hundreds of thousands of dollars in a blink of an eye. Losing 375K is like a drop in the bucket for them (mild exaggeration here), and not to mention, they technically lost 0$ because the transaction did not even go through.
Furthermore, the channel isn’t really about “hype”. They go deep into talks about investing, and I think only if you compare them with hype pokemon youtube channels, you would evidently see a difference in emotion. Otherwise, if you watch them normally, they act calm and collected like all the time, and joke about their mistakes on an ongoing basis.
I have to say I am also surprised they are willing to do something like this because it’s clearly outside their area of expertise and I personally feel like they have no interest in it. That may be why they have like mild feelings about the box opening because they have no real attachment to the cards and financially speaking, they took 0 impact from the loss. I suppose a similar situation is if you went to a gambling hall and you bet 100$ on a game you do not understand, not understanding what’s going on, and then people told you that you lost but the dealer made a mistake so you get your initial 100$ back. You would probably have the same reaction as the channel people.
Frankly the only mistake dumb money made is that they chose their “gurus” poorly, making the video look more of a joke. Like seriously, none of the “experts” really talked about pokemon seriously except for Leonhart, no joke they were all crypto people which frankly makes me question why on earth are they on the panel.
TLDR: The channel dumb money is basically rich people that 300k+ loss is nothing of a surprise to them since they stock trade, but honestly they chose some pretty poor panel experts which made the video feel more of a joke.
Very good point for DumbMoney’s lack of reaction.
But the fact is, in a part of the video (around 12:30 if you watch it again), Guru is saying that he sold to Logan Paul a card at low cost, loosing 6K he said, because he knows that the hype around the cards would helps him to make money when the price will go up after the diffusion of Logan’s videos. He said it was for him a good investment. If he can plan to sell to Logan Paul a card for less than the value he think his card worth to make profit from the general hype around pokemon, I still think he can stage all this (even if DumbMoney didn’t know it). Dumb Money is a little channel, but if you cross all his friends channels, Leaonhart fans and other people here at the table, this videos reaches a lot of people.
For sure there is no proof that it’s staged. Nobody will know. It’s only what comes first to my head, but I absolutly can be wrong (in fact, i hope so).

This is why I said the box won’t go for as much as 24 light packs + 12 CONFIRMED heavy packs.
In other words, if you have a box, you are better off breaking it on camera and showing the weights of every pack right there. Then the 12 heavies become “confirmed.” (As long as the person is also trustworthy enough to not pull a fast one on others and switch the packs somehow).
Nobody gave a fuck when Justin Bieber posted on Insta or Twitter or wherever he did it that he bought some Pokémon cards. When the trashbag of the internet, Logan Paul, bought Pokémon cards everybody went apeshit and started circlejerking that it was good for the hobby and skyrocketed prices. I really cannot give a single fuck of someone that has his entire professional life on Youtube laundering his money by buying Pokémon cards. They are as worse as those people that just buy cards to PSA slab them in order to flip them.

Good points, but CG was doubling down on authenticity pre-opening. This would have been incredible acting by a group of non actors.
We didn’t get any close ups of the box and they did not weigh the box after discussing it earlier.
I was a bit surprised at only 1k viewers, although it is the middle of a work day. I’d like to learn more about the Vegas event mentioned.

This is the best timeline to be in pokemon.

slabsniper:tell me what? psa graded packs just went up in value after this
Now that I think about it… maybe it’s better to just buy the cards instead of a box that probably only has 0-2 PSA 10 1st ed Base holos in it anyway.
Cards > Sealed Product
