Profit margins will be greater if you keep the packs sealed but price’s are increasing, and the loss you initally took by opening the pack can be gained back over time.
With the market going up so much since OP (especially 1st ed base), I wonder what the price of a heavy 1st ed base set pack is for? Heard Leonhart say he paid 10k for the recent one he opened so that may be the new market now. If that is the case then a sealed box is worth around 150k+ now.
