End of March 2025: 75 billion cards (+10.2 billion cards)
End of March 2024: 64.8 billion cards (+11.9 billion cards)
End of March 2023: 52.9 billion cards (+9.7 billion cards)
End of March 2022: 43.2 billion cards (+9.1 billion cards)
End of March 2021: 34.1 billion cards (+3.7 billion cards)
End of March 2020: 30.4 billion cards (+1.6 billion cards)
The amount of cards printed is insane.
Some quick fun facts:
In weight the 10.2 billion cards are about 18,360 tons in total, equivalent to 3,672 elephants (this is the US measurement scale right?). It took around 440,640 trees to print these cards.
Enjoy your energy cards !
Printers be brrrr’ing.
It’s wild that many of us witnessed a noticeable dip in demand last year, but the total printed cards globally still exceeded 2022-2023’s print run by half a billion cards. Thanks China + other newly added regions/countries.

Crazy. I wonder what the numbers will look like next year!
I made a quick chart to visualize the data since 2017:
Weird there was a dip from last year
The promised additional printing wasnt until late 2024/early 2025. I assume printing capacity is back to 100% now. I am guessing next fiscal year will provide a new record of cards printed
Crazy part is that 90% of that volume came just from akabane
And it’s still not enough!
If the current demand is any indicator, along with the 30th anniversary next year, I can only see this rising.
Of the 75.0 billion cards printed, at least 74.9 billion are worthless. I wonder what proportion are energies and code cards as well.
Its the scalpers!
1 extra billion = 1 extra minute in stock
For every code card and energy card in a booster pack, there are 10 set cards. For every 45 energy cards in an Elite Trainer Box there are 9-11 booster packs, and not everyone buys an Elite Trainer Box if it doesn’t offer the most packs (booster boxes, etc). Pre-constructed starter decks in JP are 60 cards including 18-19 energy cards so it’s also more reprint/new cards per deck, and not everyone buys decks (booster boxes, etc). The majority of cards printed are directly from sets
I guess the big question is, can TPCi move to TPC format seamlessly?
It really is a lot of waste.
I’m not surprised. I know it’s not a 1:1 but I feel like demand has certainly 6x (1.6->10.2) to justify the increase, especially with the push into China and SEA.
