Another minty card added to the potential crossover pile. Hitmonchan is going to be one of the hard ones, along with Raichu and Chansey.
Centering is a tad off, but the rest of the card looks very nice. I will be taking a good look at these when I have all the cards in my hands. The ones that I’m on the fence about I will either keep in my PSA 9 collection or potentially re-sell should another opportunity arise!
Rubbish picture (screengrab from a video from the seller) - but here is the 5x cert Gyradaos. Centering looks good (maybe a bit off top to bottom - so likely a 9 subgrade on that, but the rest of the card was pretty clean) - will get better quality pics when the shipment arrives.
Received the first lot of cards! In my hands I can get a better idea of which are the strongest and thus have the best chance of crossing to bgs 9.5 (they are all quite strong cards).
I wont say anything else about them at this point, other than I’m like a kid at Christmas!
Picked up this really lovely looking Raichu from the recent PWCC auction. Centering seems bang on. Only thing wrong is the back right corner (so a 9 subgrade) - praying for no print lines!
Front
My next lot of PSA9s will be coming shortly from abroad. Will update shortly.
I also had the opportunity to pick up some long crimp shadowless packs that came from the same case.
The Zard (34.01) is 50/50 on if it is ‘heavy’ from the case. According to the seller, anything over 34 would be considered ‘heavy’ but you cant guarantee anything. The lights were around the 33.4-5g range, so still about half a gram difference from the zard, but still not close enough to the true heavies from the case (like the venu) for me to want to chance it. It’s gonna stay sealed - and I’m really happy to own one of these iconic blisters!
Venusaur (34.38) pack has a very high chance of a holo (2 other packs this weight from the same case pulled holos) - so will be opening live on my Insta (date tbc, follow me for updates, link in my signature!). I’d love a zard ofc, but any holo (besides magneton will be appreciated!).
Preciosa colección amigo, envidia sana la verdad.
I am collecting in a way more humble way than you, will do a thread about my collection soon when got pictures of everything.
Now that you are an expert of shadowless cards, wanted to ask you a question that I have always wondered,
Is there actually a difference between shadowless cards and non shadowless in the holo design??
I know that the main difference is the lack of shadow on the right side, the HP is thinner, and sometimes the distribution of the attacks’ energy distribution, but how about the holo design?
For example, these Poliwrath
The Poliwrath skin’s color seems deeper, and also the holo “stars” seem more colorful
Personally I thought that the holo design was the same, but after owning these I realized they actually are not, righ?
I wouldn’t call me an expert at all haha - but appreciate the notion.
I know that there are big colour variations in Base set, even unlimited has different colours - for example, a deeper ruby red on Zards is quite noticeable, or a different yellow or more orange border on the blastoise.
I am not sure about the holo itself as each holo pattern is unique so its hard to tell.
Maybe someone with more knowledge than I can comment on this!
Hey there - slowly cross grading 9s as I discovered it’s quite an unrealistic goal to purchase 9.5s outright simply due to the low pops (think Chansey etc).
Two years ago I added a Blastoise 9.5 to complete the trio and another Alakazam (which I later sold to a friend, I still own the one in the picture below).
Completing the set is still on my to do list but Im enjoying the cross grading process so will try to finish the set in that manner.
In the past I owned 8 of the 16 in BGS 9.5 but decided to sell some of them to fund other collection goals (and one or two were not very strong cards in my opinion, and I’m pretty OCD with that stuff haha!).
Currently own in 9.5
Zard, Venu, Blasty, Zam
Owned in the past but now sold
Raichu (very strong card but sold to fund Blastoise), Machamp (also sold to fund blasty), Magneton (pretty clean), Mewtwo (very weak 9.5, had quite bad edge damage), another zam (strong card tbh).
Currently in grading with BGS (a couple super strong PSA 9s that I hope will cross) -
I had some good success cracking and resubmitting Japanese vintage (mainly neo 3 and neo 4 shinings, I took a PSA 6 Shining Magikarp to a 9++ and also graded a Quad+ 9.5) but I feel with English vintage its a lot tougher. I do love the chase though!
