Felt it was more a year for players, after all we have at hand a trading card game. So rather a game year than a trading one.
This has to be the best start to any Era in the TCG the only people hating and being loud about it are generally stonkers
Banger artwork every set tbh
I patiently await a Greninja AR/SAR, with it being a 7 Star Raid Boss in the game I have hope.
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying this gen’s block of cards, especially considering the art of the first half of the last few modern generations were more limited.
Highlights:
I like the the grey border change even though I’ve started to collect JP cards anyway this block.
I’m really not a fan of the regular holo pattern, and I also initially thought that cosmos would be better but I’m starting to feel that after a few sets they’ll also become uninteresting from seeing one in each pack.
Glad the eliminated rainbows. I agree FA Pokemon could go - my only hopes for those are that younger collectors enjoy them, or that players appreciate a more affordable option to bling out their decks than going for SARs. The FA tera backgrounds look aesthetically pleasing but I think the crowns are so tacky. I’m not sure what they could do instead given that its a reflection of the video games.
Hopefully we see a new type of ex (akin to VSTAR, TagTeam additions in later sets of a gen) that will allow for interesting gameplay and a pleasing template for more great artwork. And more Shiny SIRs!
I like it. Granted, I’m pretty biased as a Gardevoir collector, and we already have a lot of amazing Gardevoir cards released, particularly that SIR from SV base. Looking forward for the upcoming SIR Gardy as well.
Honestly impressed with the alt arts and artwork in general. I still yearn for aome rougher concepts and more wild ideas instead of general scenery but I can’t complain about SV except English pull rates being abysmal but that’s been true for a long time now.
Now if only if TPCI stepped up the holo effect game even further. The Terra EX cards were pretty great but I still think holos could be a lot more promising and exciting.
oh yeah true. the holo is kinda meh. on one hand, its better than SWSH, SWSH, and BW. (almost the same style as XY), but on the other hand, it just isn’t quite like good ol cosmos.
I’m only showcasing this one card even though it’s already posted here and there would be so many other bangers too within this era. But this is the absolute number one that gets better and better everytime i look at it. There are a lot of other great cards like hyogonosuke 9 card puzzle, the story telling ar/sar trios and 151 set as a whole but nothing beats this drowzee, might be even the best Komiya card.
This era also has some other great things. The amount of ar cards is incredible and i’m really hoping they slowly add more pokemon to the spectrum which are getting attention, it has already been sweet that some really unpopular pokemon have been presented on these but we need slime more, hoping that eventually all pokemon get a chance to be featured. Also what has been great that every pack has at least that one holo card. Reverse holos just don’t scratch the same itch but holos still feel special and no pack is a miss anymore for me when getting that sweet holo rare, i think especially when the borders are now holo too it adds to the special feeling.
What i would hope tho that they did something to the full arts. I don’t want them to get rid of them since i really like the concept and they are perhaps the best cards to show the pokemon itself without anything extra, but this current full art style isn’t that good. I can’t even tell what’s wrong with them but when you compare the style for example to the XY era full arts the difference in feeling is massive.
