If I had that card, I’d just give it to you. The difference in value is vastly different, but you came with a perspective that it didn’t matter. Best of luck finding a match. @jeverstones
No harm in trying! I think most people were just reacting to the massive difference in value and didn’t mean anything personal. If anything this is probably the most/best advertisement for the no illust Blastoise error!
Thank you for pointing those out. Let me explain the differences.
These listings are Illustrator smudges. Although the label does not distinguish it, it’s obvious.
Here are those listings’ errors:
In contrast, these cards can also have “no” illustrator, which is the pure form of how this error is supposed to look.
This is my card, which is both the sole 9, and also the highest PSA graded example, whether of the smudge or “no Illus.” error.
The “Illus.” is completely missing.
I understand paying 2-3K for a 9 of one of those other more common variants, but I would personally never accept 2-3K for this card in 100 years because it’s likely irreplaceable for me.
Thanks for the explanation, @jeverstones.
I own several “Stage Error” Blastoise cards with varying smudges from partial to complete. These are all part of the same error family and do not have a premium associated with the amount of text missing, unfortunately. The variance in the error is interesting and may be noteworthy to some, but sales data suggests that it doesn’t matter financially.
See below, my PSA 7 is “fully missing” while my PSA 8 is “partially missing.”
Regardless, I am glad that you love your card.
I didn’t even know this was an error. Always learning something new. Very cool!
I’m very familiar with this error I’ve talked about it before somewhere on here. You are absolutely right with how much this varies. Literally from the tiniest bit removed to everything and some ken. I’ve seen a 9 before but can’t remem if it’s this or a lesser version it was listed a while back for a high price. Is the full missing worth more than just a tiny bit or middle size? I’d say yes.
