Don’t see why everyone is so uptight. The poster followed the rules. After mojotbone posted about listing your price it should have been dropped, not another page of people telling him to do it just because some members want it to be a rule when it isn’t a rule.
And here I thought Pokemon collecting was supposed to be about fun not trying to force others to conform to your point of view.

I think everyone here has genuinely been trying to help. I’ve got contacts that would be willing to sell their sets but I personally would never refer them to this guy because it could potentially waste their time. By providing up-front pricing you’re eliminating that as a concern.
Edit: I also want to add to my reasoning that Gary would be the most LIKELY to get a deal from for all those cards, and his response was “thanks for trying”…

Why is it that only the people who CAN’T help like kanag… would dictate to others what to do. If your happy with his style then YOU help him. You think this is our first rodeo dealing with requests like this kanag? I’ve dealt with hundreds and they all lead to the same place…a waste of time. Maybe you have nothing to do so YOU babysit him and waste your own time and don’t tell us what to do.
Nobody in the world could help him besides a couple folks here and from his op he alienated us. We still tried to help him by giving him advice that would help him accomplish his goal but he wasn’t interested in compromising which tells us he’s fos anyway.

The point is, the poster turned down the advice. That doesn’t mean you have to waste your time, like you said, you guess you wouldn’t be dealing with them.
I agree, I don’t like their original post as well. But that doesn’t mean 2 pages of people should be telling the poster the same thing. They followed the buy thread rules and made it clear they didn’t want to list prices multiple times**.**
I also agree this thread might be a big waste of time, again, members don’t have to spend the time to make an offer. You think I don’t deal with this on eBay all the time. If it’s not worth my time I decline and move on, if they then buy the items great, if not I didn’t waste my time.

I agree with this, maybe everyone should petition Scott for it to happen. That way there won’t have threads like this.
I can’t tell this thread is real or if it’s a dramatization being put on to teach people why its important to not make a shitty WTB thread. Because this what happens when you make a shitty WTB thread. (no offense collectorsconundrum, sorry for making this thread even shittier)

It’s very interesting to me this is the kind of hostility I get for making a simple WTB post on this forum. And it’s all because I don’t bend to how people want me to bend, even when its not a rule of any sort as defined in your own sites recommended post and further mentioned by kanagawacards (thank you for standing up for me). Really ridiculous of being accused of being all these things, its like you feel threatened by me for some reason, I can’t imagine why but if I were to guess its your own personal insecurities. Like your trying to control an outcome that has nothing to do with you because you have nothing better to do with your time but bully some freshie?
Well I got news for your kind of people I’m not going anywhere, and no matter how much negativity you throw my way you will never change my happy-go-lucky nature and I will continue to invest in Pokemon as I see fit, I don’t care what anyone says, especially the likes of you.
You can continue on with your harassment if that’s what you think your time is worth, I really could care less, really wasn’t expecting this kind of behavior from the Pokemon community tbh, but their are bad apples everywhere so its understandable. People are kindly trying to help this poster and he turns around and comes off as a dick, unless I am the only one that sees that. He obviously knows what he wants and knows what he wants to pay, he would rather not post his asking price and try to haggle people to buy below market value, who would ask for cards yet not know what they want to pay? Collectors know it will be a waste of time and people are trying to help explain that to him.

Hey mate generally we like to see prices on buy threads since it allows other users to see what your willing to spend and/or advise you on what the current market is looking like compared to your prices. Doing this also happens to give your thread a higher chance of getting a deal made, granted it’s not a 100% success rate but it still works effectively. I like to think of it like it’s reverse eBay. You list the price you want to buy and others view the listing and make a deal based on whether they liked the listing.
In the long run besides building our own collections this forum is a great place to watch and encourage other collectors with whatever goals they are aiming for. A lot of us build good relations in threads like this. Even though some of these posts may read a bit harsh or aggressively I can ensure you that good intention is always their motive.

Look don’t be afraid of advice. Not everyone is out to take advantage of you. A couple of months ago, I was searching for a card and I stated what I was willing to pay. A member responded by telling me that my offer was actually too high and that I could find the card for lower with patience. Don’t take everyone’s advice so negative, there are tons of honest people who are willing to help you and show you current listings, previous listings, and maybe even some info on some private sales. After all, all of this info is only going to help you regardless of whether you make the purchase or not. Finally, I’m assuming you joined the forum to learn and be a part of the collector’s community; get to know the people, their collections, and find ways to contribute. It doesn’t help to ask how much people have paid for similar purchases and how the prices have changed over the last year.

If you were to read the first few comments, people were trying to help by giving advice and in return they got defensive and turned into this. Now you want to cry harassment because you didn’t like the advice people were giving you?
