WTB 1st Edition Charizard PSA 10 / PSA 9 / BGS 9.5 / BGS 9

Based on last two that have sold, current market price on a PSA 9 is $5950-6000

I don’t know about BGS as I don’t rate their grading.

3 sold for around $5100 each on last PWCC…

Two sold within 6 months at £4600 I just used a currency converter…

If anything is different, people will develop a preference and pay a premium. For example, second hand markets for phones and cars. Popular colors sell more easily and therefore command a premium.

Then it’s not current. This PWCC auction ended 2 days ago.

The second one sold for an almost identical £4600 in auction in the US within the last 2 months. I’d say thats pretty current, $5100 does not represent the market value. Absolutely NO-ONE would sell this card for that price on here, also it’s not the best time of year to sell, and PWCC are like a pez dispenser with auctions.

Yeah, Of course I’m aware of that. How many cards have your tried to cross from bgs to psa? Specifically with one 9 sub. I’ll be the first to tell you I’ve tried enough times to know, that 90% or more of these cards will not get the psa 10. Especially being sent in the bgs case. It’s fun to think about. I get that. It’s just not realistic. This coming from somebody who has owned ALOT of gem bgs cards. The quality of the grade just isn’t there. Specifically on the surface. It’s like the Wild West with the bgs surface grade. Lol. That’s my 2 cents. I just don’t think we’re going to see a low sub 9.5 sell for 15-20k anytime soon. Not when there are 600+ 9’s available that a large chunk of, are the same quality.

I can guarantee you that right now only the absolute best BGS 9.5 1st edition Charizards would be able to cross over to PSA 10s.

How do I know this? Because I can use common sense.

A few years ago, the price for PSA 10 1st edition Base Set Charizards exploded. This created an enormous incentive for people to try crack open their PSA 9 1st edition Charizards and try to turn them into PSA 10s.

PSA isn’t completely stupid, they understand that people crack open cards and re-submit, and that it hurts their brand if people can consistently crack open 9s over and over again and eventually turn them into 10s.

So how did PSA respond? Well…

In January 2018, nearly 2 years ago, there were 117 PSA 10 1st edition Charizards and 540 PSA 9 1st edition Charizards.

Now, there are 120 1st edition PSA 10 Charizards and 627 PSA 9 1st edition Charizards.

So in the last 22 months, PSA has graded a total of 3 Charizards as PSA 10 and a total of 87 as PSA 9s.

So unless a BGS 9.5 Charizard has at least a 9.5 for every single subgrade, you can just forget about it crossing over to a PSA 10 at this point.

Anyone who is selling a BGS 9.5 Charizard at this point is doing so because they understand it won’t crossover into a PSA 10. They’re not giving up tens of thousands of dollars for no reason.

At this point it’s pretty well established in Pokemon that:

BGS 10 > PSA 10 > BGS 9.5 > PSA 9 > BGS 9

So, if you’re strictly collecting then it’s whatever your personal preference is. But if you also care about the value of your cards, then the only time to submit to BGS is if you think your card could be a BGS 10 or if you think you have a BGS 9.5 that wouldn’t make the cut for PSA 10.

The 3 recent zards that sold at PWCC all ended at the same time. I would think that would have hurt sales. I recently sold one for cash/trade worth $7k so there’s definitely more value there.

Also, I’ve got a friend who bought a 9.5 unlimited zard and thought it could cross to a 10 a few months ago. He asked me to look at it and when we did there were about 6 big scratches on the holo and other imperfections. It had no chance of crossing over but it still had a 9.5 surface subgrade. Now I’ve got a psa 9 1st ed base zard that has absolutely 0 scratches and is pretty much flawless on the back (centreing is a bit off). I wouldn’t trade that for any bgs 9.5 unless I saw the other card in person.

PSA 10 = BGS 9.5 quad ++ > BGS 9.5 quad + > BGS 9.5 quad > BGS 9.5 base = PSA 9

I own a Charizard BGS 9.5 (9.5-9.5-9.5-9.0). I had in my possession 3 Charizard PSA 9. I can guarantee that my BGS 9.5 is much better than all PSA 9 that I had in my possession.
Regarding the last bidding BGS 9.5 by PWCC, in my opinion it does not deserve to be a BGS 9.5 (very bad corner and edges). Its price of $ 6,500 is therefore deserved. A true BGS 9.5 deserves $ 9000-10000 and a BGS 9.5 (9.5 * 4) coast in my opinion $ 20,000.
Basic rule: buy a card and not a notation.

My opinion on BGS 9.5 not having any 10 and having a characteristic of 9.0 is not a PSA 9 and not a PSA 10.
