Thanks for the clarification on that. Sometimes when you see an outlier number like that, it means the sale didn’t go through. But the overall upward price trend with this card is pretty clear.
ccrntrade: Thank you for providing that. That is very helpful as I did not see someone on this form is offering $1800. I did look through old listings and the only one I found was someone who bought one for $1200 in January and did not come across any others on this form since. Had I known someone was offering $1800 I would not have created this thread lol.
Enlightenedbulbasaur: Thank you for providing the listing for one sold today. That must have sold in the last hour. How did you find it went for $1550? I’m using the eBay app which just says best offer accepted? I didn’t realize there was one that had sold for around $1950 on eBay on 03/26/2020. Apparently using eBay app on my phone is not the best as changing the order of typing in 1st edition Blastoise psa 9 or 1st edition Blastoise psa 9 shadowless gives me quite different results for sold listings. I could consider $1400-$1500, but I’ll wait a couple of months and see how things go. As for the stock market it may go up in the short term, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we approach a new bottom over the next year. Apparently Pokémon is unaffected especially with folks sitting at home on eBay
unfortunately, the pokemon market relies on very low-tech way of looking for price trends. i personally have to spend a TON of time looking at sold listings on eBay, cross referencing Watchcount.com, etc. to really gauge how the market is evolving. especially at this time. also, composite sites like pokemonprice.com still has problems indexing real available data with its current algorithm. keep hunting. there is no shame in trying to find a deal. the market is all over the place, so just keep your eyes peeled on listings, etc. however, it does seem the demand is creating a supply vacuum in the really popular categories of pokemon, and that includes the high end 1st edition base sets.
EnlightenedBulbasaur: Thank you very much! That will help out a ton!
yz2428: I appreciate you letting me know your way. It really helps and I will do that in the future. Blastoise was my favorite as a kid so hope to get it sometime soon, but probably not the best time to buy now. I imagine with stimulus checks cards could go even faster now.
A lot of my key cards in my collection were bought on offer posts that people “hated on” to some extent. When there aren’t any public offers higher out there don’t be afraid to shoot your shot. In this case it seems some public auctions may have surpassed the offer recently, but card prices, contrary to common recent opinions, are not only capable of traveling in one direction.
I don’t feel like its necessarily that people are being aggressive, in this situation I feel people including myself were trying to offer the OP some advice on the current market value in order to increase their chances of obtaining the card. There is no harm in shooting your shot and you do not have to raise your offer, however, there are multiple data points to show the price has recently increased on this card, even since February!
Personally I would prefer it if people offer me advice on current market value if I am off on the price.
I have had it before when I have contacted someone about sale of a card normally with little sales data, I ask how much they are looking to sell the card for, they say make me a offer. I make a offer based on the little knowledge available and I have had responses before like “not even close” and no indication for what the seller really wants for the card. Now that’s frustrating! I just don’t even bother to continue at that point.
They made their post, and immediately three people jumped in. Then more followed. Just so not necessary.
Let them shoot. There’s no need for a bunch of people to jump on someone due to a low offer. We’re all free to sell our cards at any price, and free to offer any price.
Who knows, maybe he/she gets a bite. But if not, well then they’ve got their answer.
@hyruleguardian, yeah was odd enough for me to stay away from the whole listing. Maybe silly but I don’t like paying 1000s for something when the seller is either clueless or trying to deceit. That’s just me though.
