yes, i think the growing fear of a dry psa 10 1st edition holo supply is well grounded. pwcc has not really auctioned many psa 10 1st ed base holos since late 2018. the pop report has been at a virtual standstill on the 10s in a while. i think the price increase is natural and warranted. no psa 10 holo should be slept on. doesn’t matter the pokemon popularity. if you can get your hands on one for a good price, jump on it. i think it’s a sure bet their prices will make some further move upward. the only way you’ll get a holo 1st edition base is buy HEAVY packs (8k+), booster box (150k+?), GET super lucky and find an unweighed pack (probably 1 in 1000 packs?) or gem mint raw (impossible - just forget about this). i don’t think many people are sitting on raw gem mint 1st ed holos and not grading them, except for people like scott or gary, who have a large enough collection to want to keep a few mint copies raw to enjoy. basically, all the likely scenario is telling you that these psa 10 holo cards are going to be very rare. it’s next to guaranteed they will go up further in prices in the near future. and it could be a huge leap.
I agree with this statement. Just bought the eBay PSA 10 1st ed Magneton at $4k. Its one of the lowest pop cards in the set. Not the most popular Pokemon but certainly has scarcity on its side.
I do agree with what you are saying for 1st ed base set and other certain sets but the price jump was so sparatic and continues to climb at an unprecedented pace it’s just so hard to take in/kinda hard to believe that I dont like it. As they say, slow and steady wins the race. 1st ed base 10s in 2018 were all over the market and in bunches… now everything is currently gone. Yes I’ve noticed the same things. Its just… it’s just madness lol!
Funny. I’m at only 11/16 right now but would say Magneton is the weakest that I have. There’s no edgewear issue, but mine has a very faint horizontalish scratch running across the entire holo. It’s hard to notice (I did only after checking it in direct sunlight recently, though now I can’t unsee it), but at that size, it almost makes me wonder if it was missed during grading.
did anyone pick up that poliwrath psa 10? i think the auction ended at around 3.1k + tax. so it’s almost at 3.5k. i think that’s a record for poliwrath. anyways, yeah, i don’t like it when we are on the other end of the growth spurt in the hobby, but i like to be an optimist. this means our hobby is super strong with new entrants into the hobby. that makes certain collection goals difficult, but the growth of a community necessitates price adjustments. just have fun and collect what you can. what makes it fun is when you collect some of these really difficult pieces and you really had to try - those stories alone make the experience worthwhile/legendary. i have been looking for the shadowless psa 10 alakazam and chansey for a while. i definitely had some missed opportunities in the past but i can’t wait to reach my goals in the future. anything worth doing is probably going to be hard. the reward is more thrilling if the journey is difficult and takes effort.
i was just thinking: is the PSA 10 1st edition shadowless machamp pretty low in pop too? i know the report states +/-300 for the combined shadowless and shadow versions, but i bet only 1/3 or less of it is the shadowless based on ratios you normally see on eBay being listed. i guess the one issue is that there are a lot of sealed shadowless machamps still in people’s collections.
