Would you grade lower end No rarities

What’s the thought on this? Low pop cards overall, I like the look of slabs. Building out a set at the moment, starting lower level and then upgrading as they come available. I kinda like the idea of grading some of the cards even at the psa 3-5 level. I don’t have much in them, and feel they are almost a piece of history. What’s everyone’s thoughts on it? Am I mad.

Would you grade those same cards if they were 1st ed base?

Heck no lol

But, these are about a million times harder to find lol

If it is simply for your collection because you love the cards, then sure. If it is something you plan to sell one day, then I’d say no.

This was kinda my thinking on it^ I will probably hang onto them, until I have many duplicates. Maybe I’ll be the only crazy person to have one of each grade excluding 9/10s lol

These are really my only focus since getting back into Pokémon after such a long time away

Personally I just throw those in a binder unless they are close to gem mint. Excluding the holos though of course. A binder is a collectors best friend. Keep em in there until they are worth enough to grade if you intend to sell one day maybe then they will be worth it. Unless you really want a ton of slabs in your house on display. But personally thats not my thing. I like keeping binders, its like opening a treasure chest of art.

At the moment I’m just acquiring the Holos, as I haven’t found what I would consider reasonable prices for the commons and uncommons raw. Seems everyone wants 30$ for a played squirtle or ivysaur.

I’m actually looking at them again and most of the Holos would probably be 5-7, with a few at 4. The no rarities seem to really be graded on a curve due to the scarcity I guess. When I look at a psa 6 no rarity versus a 1st edition base, they are miles apart in my opinion. I’ll post a picture of a psa 6 mewtwo I just bought for reference.

I actually feel like I’m treasure hunting looking for these cards. I’ve always been drawn to the scarcity or perceived scarcity of them. They were more a novelty when I first encountered them. Since getting back in they have really picked up steam. As someone mentioned in another thread, these cards are hard to find as one big collection in a binder. Seems like people have a handful, and so they come onto the market a few at a time in those instances. Condition is rough for the most part ungraded, and raw in good grades the prices are in some cases higher than what they occasionally sell for in psa 7-8 range. With the centering on these, I would imagine a 9 is harder to get from a card that isn’t in pack fresh condition.

I had really struggled with what I wanted to target when getting back into collecting. I’ve now completely jumped in, I just have to hold off on buying some of the mid range cards and just wait on some good ones that pop up. That’s fomo for you though lol

I’d defo be grading them, they do have value an are rare bt I do like the idea of binders as they are cool especially a complete no rarity binder! not sure thats a binder u find laying about very often regardless of condition!! tbf I think either is a good shout when cards are below PSA 5 condition

Sure, why not

If they become worth it to grade in the future, you can always do it then. No need to rush to grade them

Yes. I would.

With the wait times at PSA, I think I am going to just ship them off now, From a value standpoint, I know it doesn’t change much. But for my first complete set, and the scarcity, ill probably just bit the bullet. It certainly won’t take away from them. I feel slabs present worn cards a little better also. Every time I hold one it’s like holding history. It’s really cool to think that these were the first real ptcg cards.

Its crazy to think that for most of these cards, there are less than 100 graded examples. I did just snag a graded No rarity Charizard. I’ll post up some pics when i get it next week. Really excited about that one.

I’m a huge fan of these cards. I agree with the sentiment that each one is a piece of history. They are relatively scarce, particularly in high grade. Personally, anything less than a PSA 7 I would just throw in a binder though. At high grades, these cards are starting to get traction and quite pricey. I was outbid yesterday for a PSA 10 no rarity bulbasaur that went for over $800. I was frankly shocked and was negotiating with the seller thinking I had plenty of time. That has been happening more recently with no rarities. It’s frustrating to lose out on a PSA 10 no rarity card because you truly don’t know if you’ll see one again.

How in the heck did I miss that one lol^ I didn’t even see that one come available. I’m still kicking myself for not upping my bid on the pop 4 item finder with none graded higher
