I seriously doubt there was an actual sale, considering there are multiple others available for far cheaper prices. It looks like the same seller has it listed again. Are they just trying to artificially drive the price up?
Ya I saw that but was wondering why it is still listed with your other 3 boxes for 95k as it seems like from the 4 WOTC logos on the plastic that it’s the same box. I may be wrong though
Now the question is how much of a premium would Base 2000/4th Print and Shadowless boxes command in conjunction to that of the $20k Base Unlimited variety?
Those are much more niche and less likely to be targeted by new members of the hobby so their price movement won’t be the same as unlimited base. Their rarity gives the seller much more power over the buyer though.
JFC. That’s nuts. The price movement of Unlimited Base has been stunning. I remember people on this forum being shocked that Base boxes hit $10k – and that was like two months ago lol.
It’s also just crazy when you consider how little other boxes have moved. I sold my Ruby Sapphire box for $4k roughly a year ago. At that time, Unlimited Base boxes were worth roughly the same amount. So that’s a snapshot in time from a year ago – both boxes were worth about the same. Now consider what’s the reality right now: a Ruby Sapphire box is worth $7k and a Base Unlimited box is worth…$25k? People can say all that they want about how Base boxes were underpriced, underappreciated, etc. That doesn’t change the clear fact that its value is, at present time, being propped up by speculative demand. That’s not to say that it can’t go up even more. And it’s also not to say that it will go down. But it is to say that the $25k price point is inflated (and may always be) by speculative demand.
I agree that we can’t view the boxes as fully separate. But it was inherently tied to 1st Edition Base Set last October also. That hasn’t changed. 1st Ed. Base Boxes were like ~$75k last October? So, last October, the price ratio 1st Ed. vs. Unlimited was 19:1 ($75k to $4k). Now the price ratio is 8:1 ($200k to $25k). So the relative price difference has also decreased significantly.
Thats true but there comes a point that things start to accelerate due to fomo. Base unlimited is the last and cheapest shot that people have for base set.
