As most know, I constantly receive dms on Instagram and don’t have enough time to respond. I answer maybe 5%, typically if they want to purchase an item. Here is one of those messages I answered, negotiated a price, and the person stopped responding because of a $1.46 difference in shipping on a $150 order…
To add more context, these are scream promos which sell weekly. I already sold the cards they wanted through eBay, for a higher price. Just had to share this as I couldn’t write a more Instagram situation.
Even though this transaction fell through, I can vouch for this buyer. I have sold and shipped several cards directly to her via Instagram, most recently being the first week of November. She is very credible.
Maybe credible but also a serious ball breaker. Those types are not only a waste of time but they’re bad for the hobby. Just pass or on eBay just block.
I sent my ex girlfriend “virtual flowers” via a couple various flower emojis one time haha. Since emojis came out, that’s probly about as extensive as my emoji use has been.
I treat my instagram and facebook messenger the same way I use to treat Grindr… never respond.
I don’t even respond to family members… I get people calling my parents as to why I don’t respond on Facebook Messenger or Instagram.
Its simple, for some reason, people are more willing to waste your time through these and I don’t know why.
I feel this is situational. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to request a additional photo of the back of a card for example if the seller only posts a picture of the front and the card is worth a reasonable amount of dollar. Especially as the scope for near mint or mint cards on eBay seems to vary greatly depending on the seller. If you know and trust a seller already then sure you maybe happy to take their word on it. If it’s the first time buying it can be nice to have some confirmation what you are purchasing is what is described.
Hello i hate to revive such an old post but i would like some insight into this…
So i’ve been messaging on instagram for sometime because alot of product and cards seems to move through instagram and im just trying to increase my chances at finding cards i want. Is there some sort of rule about not responding or something? I dont know what i did but i feel like im being ghosted
So here is the story
I contact a seller on instagram to see if i can purchase a bundle of cards. At this point im very eager since i’ve been somewhat successful on instagram even though i just started. I ask about the cards and if this seller is willing to negotiate a sale of a lot of cards to me. they said yes and im sitting here like “oh yes maybe i can get some of my missing cards”. I give my offer which i think was reasonable but the seller says no which i can agree with and stuff that’s the sellers prerogative. so then i proceed to ask what price would he want to sell for so i can understand how much he wants to let go of these cards. I’m not looking to undercut their price or argue against them or anything i honestly wanted to know so maybe if it was too expensive i would just buy less cards overall. they direct me to their ebay page so i look and notice the cards i wanted were 30 bucks or best offer besides a few exceptions but shipping is set to 25 bucks (coming from uk so understandable) and underneath it states they do not combine orders, which for me begs the question why not but w.e. so i ask would you do 25 bucks a card for the cards that are 30 best offer. I don’t really get a response after that. At this point i stop getting any responses all together. I get a little bit frustrated and try asking is that an okay offer/ or stuff like is there a price point you want to sell at etc etc just trying to figure out if the seller has some number they would sell at. I try to ya know throw together some more money and go up to offering 27.50$ per card for the bundle of cards. no reply. I mean i wouldve taken an answer like my price is firm on ebay or anything that signified his price and that i was not going to get any deal on cards or the seller wasnt interested in selling to me, but all i get is silence. I’ve basically have given up on getting these cards ill just try to find another seller.
Now here is my question. Did i do something terribly wrong? was offering anything under their ebay listed price which has best offer on it as well such a wrong thing? did i break an unwritten rule? all i wanted was to negotiate a price.
p.s I also want to note that with this “technology” of instagram you can tell that the seller has read my questions and offers and etc etc basically talking to myself at this point because of that -read- sign on the bottom of instagram.
I dont understand why giving too much info would be a problem honestly. I didnt really care if i got a deal or not if i could that wouldve been great but i just wanted more information on the price that the seller wanted. If they were firm on the price i sure as heck did not get any sign of that. If they told me price was firm i would’ve been able to work with that but nothing was communicated to me. Im just really frustrated when im just honestly trying to get some answers. a simple no would’ve sufficed.
