Yes I understand that, and I agree that the shadowless one is a little harder to get but it’s still the easiest shadowless first edition card to find from the holos.
Machamps pop report includes both shadowless and shadowed versions. When that is taken into consideration, Machamp is actually rarer than some base set holos in general and PSA 10. Prices for shadowless Machamps are lower compared to other shadowless 1st ed Base cards due to their distribution method - found inside starter decks, which made them more available. They are however very hard to grade in a 10 due to print lines and centering issues, meaning in PSA 10 they are comparable in price to some regular 1st ed Base holos.
Well there is one shadowless and one unlimeted, but they have both the 1st Ed stamp. They are both graded as 1st Edition base set shadowless. But I wonder how many shadowless that is out there. The pop is 300+ something for the card but I think it’s around 100 or maybe less on that shadowless
Okey, how do you know that? Do you see any on eBay? I mean I see more poliwraths rather than machamps The pop shows 300+ but I don’t think there are many shadowless machamps out there.
Anyone want to give their guess for how many shadowless Machamps there are relative to the number of unlimited Machamps? as well as other shadowless or 1st edition cards? Do you think Machamp, shadowless or unlimited, was given a higher print run than other cards, shadowless or unlimited?
You’d basically have to make an educated guess to the distribution of theme decks vs booster boxes and then split than info Shadowless and Shadowed variants. There’s 15 pullable holos in Base (16 minus Machamp) and 12 per box, so your odds of getting a holo like Poliwrath are 12/15 = 80%
For example, if Pokemon printed eight theme decks (8 Machamps) for every ten booster boxes or box equivalents (36 blisters) that would give you 10 x 0.8 = 8 Poliwraths = Equal distribution, without taking into account theme deck variations.
The availability of sealed decks twenty years later suggests to me there were more theme decks printed than booster boxes but I’d have to dig much deeper into the numbers.
based on the ratio of what i see listed (shadowless vs “unlimited”) on eBay from time to time, i’d say the shadowless is about as rare as the other 1st ed base holos. therefore, i’d say its price is relative good versus what other psa 10s are selling for. don’t sleep on that machamp if you need it for your collection.
edit: i did not look at the raw market…just based on graded stuff.
I am curious with Machamp shadowless thick stamp and thin stamp variations. Sense it was only released though trainer decks and thick stamp is presumably older than thin stamp, does thick stamp machamp fetch a higher premium? Sense it was only available in older trainer decks with no indication on which trainer deck that maybe.
Tcgplayer always generally has better pricing then eBay. Every seller is listed that has whatever card you search. So each seller is undercutting the cheapest price etc. And it was probably more then a few months. Probably November/December time frame. But condition is hit or miss. Sometimes it’s mint sometimes it’s more like light played when you buy near mint cards there from any set that’s not modern. I also paid $20 for a light played first edition Typhlosion 17. I bought a ton of cards at prices people wouldn’t be able to comprehend at this point after price spikes
That’s not an unimaginable price point that he picked them up at. Just a month ago I snagged a mint one for $25. It’s just such a heavily printed card so there’s bound to be more deals to be found on it compared to other cards
