Does anyone else feel the full arts from TCG Pocket are the best they have done in years, by a long way?
I appreciate they are spread across different virtual sets, but some of the artworks are stunning, and i can’t understand why Pokemon Company won’t print this into an actual set. I’d buy the hell out of it…
Since the same TCG art directors are involved with pocket and the same artist, there must be less restrictions for the new illustrations or push for more appealing full arts. Also, the visuals of the game are pretty good (graphics in general, borders, etc) but that’s handled by DeNa.
I would guess there is more creative freedom with the digital game over the actual TCG, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a Pocket set in the future though, maybe in a few years?
I have not seen that Cresselia before, it really is stunning
Also, The Marill has been my phones lockscreen for a while now, currently using the Flareon from pocket as my wallpaper atm since the weather has been nice ^^
I bought a few replicas of the first wave (Gyarados and Mew) that were of a really high quality.
I was hoping that they’d release a set with them in to capitalise since it would be super popular but then again, the current release schedule being impossible to print enough of means that they aren’t that desperate for a way to inject a buzz into the TCG.
Pocket removes so many of the logisics barriers that you have with a physical release. Your approvals are faster, the iterations to get the art where you need it to be are easier, overall costs are far lower.
If Pocket is hitting their internal goals for revenue, and cards are still selling as well as they are, I don’t see a reason for them to release a physical pocket themed set, unfortunately. Maybe they’ll do some promos as a marketing tool?
I definitely see a world where they one day go back and use the pocket art to make physical versions. They just have no reason given their current forecast but it seems like a slam dunk to pull from it later to generate buzz.
