Which do you prefer: Original EX, LV.X or Primes

Hi all, haven’t been on in a while but I finally, FINALLY begin a new job next Monday, so I’m feeling more motivated again lol. Anyway I adore Original EX cards, their descendants LV.X cards, and to a much lesser extent, their grandchildren, Pokemon Prime, in that order, (on some days I might even tell you I love LV.X cards as much as their Original EX ancestors). I don’t mean in terms of value but just in terms of loving the cards themselves. So I was curious about everyone else’s preferences!

I personally love the “bad” CGI of the original EX cards (Gen 3 era). Yeah it feels dated in a way…but I more so appreciate it for what it was at the time. And having a powerful card with that awesome border and 3-D look really made them stand out from other Pokemon cards in that era.

Old ex cards really do it for me. I’ve never thought their CGI was that hard to look at, and there are several examples of characters from Ryo Ueda and Hikaru Koike that I think are incredible.

For me, it gotta be the old ex cards. I stopped collecting right around dragon frontier set before I got back into it last year, so lv.x and prime were never part of the nostalgia for me. But there’re definitely some really cool lv.x/prime artworks that I like.

I like primes, then lv x’s, then exs. Probably the opposite of most people lmao.

Original EX, and it’s not even particularly close for me. Some of the most beautiful cards in the hobby, in my opinion.

The original ex cards are possibly my favorite type of card there has been so far

All ugly and overrated.

Probably old EX or Lv X, it depends on the specific card. Some are great and some are pretty bad imo.
Prime cards are pretty meh, the image is too zoomed in on their face and prevents the card from being dynamic or having any kind of feel to it really, just not enough is shown. Legend pair cards on the other hand are amazing, true hero’s of HGSS sets.

All exs we’re not created equal (poor Charizard had so much potential) but I’d def say they’re by far the best as compared to Lv. X or Prime!

I’m not the biggest fan of any of the sets as a whole just some of individual cards…

for example I’m not really into the the close ups of primes but for some reason I really like umbreon prime.

I may not like them much but I do appreciate the variants in artwork

I prefer ex cards, I started collecting during the ex era and these cards were unmatched during that period. Today it has a nostalgia value, the dirty cgi with the mean faces make the difference to me.

Old ex has more nostalgia for me personally. Not really a fan of most of the busy cards we see now days, ex cards have just enough sparkle and a certain look that screams more rarity Without overdoing it.

Lvl x is very cool though

And primes don’t really do it for me, didn’t like them when I first see them, slowly warmed up to them a bit, and I appreciate them trying new things to keep the cards interesting

Gotta be the original EX cards but purely based on nostalgia because I have no connection to the lv. X or primes as I wasnt collecting when they were released. I remember first pulling one out a pack and the shiny borders had me completely hooked as we hadn’t seen anything like it before.

That’s my biggest dislike with Primes too and yeah Legends were really nice.

Same I still remember pulling my first one, Hitmonchan from ex Ruby & Sapphire and just having my mind blown like ‘what is this?!’

I’ll definitely admit I think the HGSS era overall had a lot going for it, so much great art, the pack arts even looked fantastic etc (obviously the games themselves were incredible too haha)
