What was your biggest time gap in purchasing?

Pretty much haven’t stopped since 2011 when I got my first job. Definitely not more than a 3-4 week period without a purchase in the last 10 years

Collecting and reselling in uni between 2010 and 2012, then life and lack of appetite for risk took over, sold almost everything and didn’t buy anything again till 2018, so 6 years I guess. Biggest regret of my life, betrayed my own values, net worth would have been well into the 7 figures by now. Live and learn.

2001 to ~2014 for me. Wish I hadn’t stopped lol.

My biggest gap was 2004-2010. The last pack I bought was an EX Sandstorm and I pulled a Wailord EX. At the time, all of my friends had stopped collecting and it didn’t seem as much fun. Got back into it with BW Base. Been collecting pretty much nonstop since then, skipping occasional sets if they don’t excite me (looking at you, Battle Styles).

Took a break from 2000 until end of 2019. The new moderns were just too exciting so I am back.

Aside from risk, was that the real reason that made you stop?

@thepokemonleague to elaborate when I say ‘risk’, what I mean specifically is the feeling that I was putting a lot of money at a young age into luxury collectables that I loved but didn’t necessarily believe would increase in value, and felt as though this was an irresponsible use of money at that age (quite a strict financial upbringing). This is why looking back on it I realise I betrayed my values, giving up something I genuinely enjoyed for the sake not putting enough thought into ways I could have met some form of compromise between selling everything and keeping my whole collection.

I wouldn’t call it a bad decision. Financial prudence is very very important especially at a young age. I mean idk what your financial situation was like back then but real life always comes first. I wouldn’t put myself down for taking a similar decision. Remember for every Pokémon there’s hundreds that failed such as beanie babies. No one could have predicted prices would rise to such levels. The situation is very similar to crypto where people bought for $1 and sold for $2. Can’t cry over it as that time it was a 100% profit.
Basically, no point crying over spilled milk. You did good!
