Aside from Greninja, I also non-seriously have a Charizard, Garchomp, and Giratina collection. If I was too add any other Pokemon to that it would probably be Dragapult.

I very often toy with idea of collecting different species and go through cards made of them to speculate what my collection would look like and what would be the pain to get -cards or if there would be any impossible ones, usually thereās some really expensive cards or cameos even with cards like krabby or doduo so i feel very satisfied with what ended up being my favourite pokemon 
but if i somehow ended up with infinite money i would love to collect zapdos or all legendary birds in addition to slime, the art is absolutely gorgeous throughout tcg history and my two binder pages of their cards is one of my favourite side collection pieces.

In the day I collected Charizard, then that just got too crazy. I also collect Greninja and all other 4ā11 Pokemon. The 4ā11 species allows me to collect a wide variety, and even new species like wo-Chien , Iron leaves and Iron Boulder.

I love Kabutops and have thought about species collecting it for several years. Unfortunately I donāt like that many of the cards. Itās not that theyāre ābadā, but I compare them all to Neo Discovery which was the card that got me back into collecting, and they just donāt hit the same way. One of two things will happen:
- Iāll eventually come around on other Kabutops cards
- Iāll buy 1,000 copies of cheap JP Neo Discovery Kabutops and be totally happy

Iāve had so many side collections in my head. I had a successful side collection of Volcarona going for a while. But if I had to choose something other than Gyarados, Iād probably do Volcarona again.
If weāre talking both TCG and non, then Venonat who makes a bunch of cameo appearances especially in postcards would be my choice.
I also have a strange fondness for Wooper despite not being in my top 10 but luckily my partner collects those.

Any species that has two stages of evolution all drawn by the same artist in the same era I find extremely pleasing, a big example being the Expedition Abra, Kadabra, and Alakazam by Kusajima, which made me like that line for collection despite previously not being interested by it.
Pokemon in my banner are my favorites (also including Scizor and few honorable mentions) but each only have 1 or 2 cards where I love the artistic depiction of them. Biggest limiting factor in species collection is where you want more of that 'mon but donāt enjoy its depictions, unless you have one true favorite.
