What NOT to buy on eBay

So a while back I purchased a lot of 450 plus Mint cards in an eBay auction or at least that’s what the title and description said…

Against better judgement, I decided to take a risk on what was also a new seller. I figured maybe I could get a steal of a deal given he had pictures of base set charizard and dozens of other original holos in the listing. I figured… what the hell? Worse case scenario I send it back because it’s not as described and I would have been happy if it was Near Mint and I got the expected cards.

Well… all I can say is I got something alright. I will say that sometimes a risky buy can pay off, but this was not one of those times. I have since been refunded, so no worries there, but this is my fun opening of hot, sexy eBay garbage. I talk about efour a bit at the 5:40 mark. Enjoy.

For anything that’s bulk/ungraded on eBay I usually take their “condition evaluation” and take it down a whole step. (Ex:NM-LP or LP-Pl) The worst offender always seems to be LP, almost always Pl or worse.

Gotta love how there was just a random, played Jungle Wigglytuff thrown in there. The jewel of the haul!

Yeah LP can mean a whole lot of things. I’ve seen some sellers list cards as “LP” that are actually near-mint, then others list the most obviously played cards as “LP.”

I personally think LP should be used to describe cards that are in EX condition.

Exactly. For me a LP card is really just a NM card with holo scratches or has >~15% whitening in the back.

Never buy lots like this.

I frequently browse ebay new listings and I always see newly listed lots starting at $1 auction that have photos of Gold stars / Shinings / 1st ed base.

But then deep in the description is says something like “You may receive the cards in the photos but you will receive 450 Pokemon cards from a any set”

No person will ever let go a gold star or a 1st ed base charizard in a $20 lot. EVER.

If you risked it and missed it and instead get a triscuit you can just list it and try again for the biscuit.

You are absolutely right. The only real reason I took a shot was because he had no feedback, which “sometimes” means it’s a person looking to dump cards as first time ebayers. Took a shot at the biscuit and pulled up lame is all.

The only valid reason in my opinion.

I personaly only buy Japanese lots. Everything you see in pictures is the minimum you will get, as opposed to ebay, where everything you see, is what you might get.
